Work Session - 4/02/14

It's moving day! Today we move from Hose Master back to our track at Penitentiary Glen Park. Frank Foti is working on his other steam engine as the crew prepares to move. Frank takes time out for a photograph besides his little switcher.
Wayne Boron, Frank Smoley, Ken Brooks and Dave Cryor align the transport lift to the back of the pickup truck that has the GP38 on it. With the lift raised to the proper height they prepare to roll the engine off into the bed of the truck.
Wayne hands Dave a clamp we use for a wheel stop as Ken watches, before they go back and get another car to load in the pickup. Dick Clark watches as Dave and Ken roll the clubs eight-foot straddle car alongside the club engine.
Ken's removing the wheel chock as they prepare to push the car off into the bed of the pickup. Dave, Frank and Wayne bring back the last car, that's going to the park, on the transfer lift.
The lift with the car on it has to be lowered to meet the elevation of the tailgate on the back of the pickup as the crew watches the operation. Ken starts putting on the tiedown straps to hold the cars in position since they stick out and the tailgate can't be raised.
The car left behind is in need of new axles for the one truck which are on order. At the track on the Branch Line we found the winter storms blew over one tree but at least it didn't hit the track and do damage.
Near the station another tree fell just missing one of our remote switch stands. From the shape of the trunk of the tree it appears no damage was done to the track when the tree blew over.
Frank, Ken, Wayne and Paul Zorko examine the switch throw rod to see if it was bent when the tree hit the ground. Paul watches is Greg Guy, who had brought a chainsaw today, started cutting up the trunk of the tree.
Greg straightening up and taking a breather as some of the crew carry off the logs that he cut up. Work continued on the cutting up of the tree to clear up the mess left by the downed tree.
Wayne waits to haul away some of the top branches as Greg continues to cut the tree up. Lew Fowler and Frank Smoley carry off one of the logs to the storage area behind the station.
Frank carries off the end piece near the old root section as Lew picks up the larger chips and broken branches around the track. Behind the station where they piled up the logs, Greg cuts the them down into manageable sizes for our fire ring.
