Work Session - 4/10/13

It was a fine misty day but the Park crew came down to replace the sign that they had installed years back, to the entrance walk that we use for the train rides. They are preparing to lift the sign out of the ground using the New Holland "bobcat type" equipment that had an auger mounted to it.
A view of the old sign that we had which stated the rules for riding our trains that will now be replaced. It's raining pretty hard now and our crew is sitting underneath the overhang at the station having some coffee as they wait for the rain to stop.
Ken, Steve and Paul enjoy conversation and drinking coffee as they wait for the rain to stop. George Metts went out to talk to the Park crew that are digging holes to put the two new signs that will replace the one we had before.
Ted Nyland, Wayne Boron and Joe Banzer were working on the ballast sweeper to put a reverse switch on the sweeper brush itself and had it up on the lift to work on. Dick checks with Joe on the progress as Wayne waits for Ted to get some wire.
They are going to mount a new 30 amp relay in the circuit to handle the polarity reversal of the wires to the motor. At the same time Ken waits for Dick to come back with the cut section of track to finish installing the switch installation we started last time.
Wayne checks the fit before we add the rail splice clips onto the rail at his end. Ken uses the tie lifter as Dick drives home the screws to hold the rail in place.
Ken files off any burrs on the end of the aluminum rail after it was cut to length so their rail joiner will easily slide on for the steel rail to aluminum splice as Dick places ties under the rail. At Zip Junction, Dave Hird was cleaning out one of the switches we have at the grade crossing that always seems to accumulate mud.
Dave Cryor lubricates the points of the switch that Dave Hird just cleaned up at Zip Junction. In Horrendous. Rick Nagy had the backpack blower and was using it to clear the leaves from the tracks in Horrendous.
Dick, Ken and Wayne continue to place the ties under the newly placed rail and screw them down with the gauge blocks on the rails. I wonder if Rick is going to feel good from all that vibration on his back for hours on end, or if he's going to ache like crazy. Thanks Rick.
