Club Run/Dedication Ceremony - 4/12/14

Roberta Uhrich arrived at the station carrying a cake for our station naming celebration to honor two members of our club, followed by Ron Trenhaile. A photo of the cake before it was cut.
A picture of the station name plaque had been put in a frame and members were asked to sign it for the ceremony. A banner was hung between the post with care in the hopes that the Shrivers would soon be there.
Enjoying coffee as they wait for the guests to arrive, Paul Zorko, Anna Zorko, Lew Fowler and Edith Hacker relax on our front retaining wall. Meanwhile up on a steaming bay, Frank Foti readies East Wind for running.
At the scissor lift, Mike Harkleroad helps George Metts with the unloading of his equipment from his trailer. Ken Brooks on the mainline passing the switch that leads to Short with family members and his wife Belinda.
After having just dumped the ashes from his firebox on his electric powered engine, Richard Sales picks up speed as he heads out towards the mainline. Paul Zorko got his straddle riding car painted to match his engine complete with a fireball.
Back at the station Rick Nagy and Dave Foster took time out for this photo as they waited for the Shrivers to arrive. A crowd of members, family and friends were gathering around the station, some of them were signing the framed picture with their signature in honor of the occasion.
While the members and guests gathered at the station the activity in the steaming bays continued as the engines were brought up to steam operating pressure. Soon Frank will be connecting the tender to East Wind and rolling him out on the turntable to turn the engine.
The crowd of members and friends is getting larger as the hour approaches for the celebration to begin. Ken heads for the kitchen to get the ladder so he'll be able to remove the covering over the nameplate signboard on the station.
Our special guests have arrived and here John Deptowicz is helping Rex Shriver to the south side of the station for the ceremony. Rex Shriver, one of the recipients of our award ceremony for the naming of the station is in position for the proceedings.
Surrounded by family and friends the ceremony is about to start as Ken Brooks stands by the ladder. That's Rex in a wheelchair with his wife Kitty behind him surrounded by their family.
The Lake Shore Live Steamers mostly congregated to the right of the honored couple. Well, everyone is in place so it's time to begin the ceremony.
Ken Brooks by the ladder gave the dedication speech and why we were honoring Rex and Kitty Shriver for what they've done for the club over the years and our way of saying "Thank You". With the closing of his statements Ken ascended the ladder and started to remove the covering from our new station name.
Kitty and Rex looking overwhelmed as the covering was removed from the new plaque as everyone was giving them a rounding burst of applause. A picture that says it all, of two deserving members being honored today.
It's good to see Rex and Kitty smile as they look on to see the new name board proclaiming the Lake Shore Live Steamer's station officially to be called "Shriver Station". Rex's daughter Pam Znidar, holds the framed picture with all the signatures on it for Rex to see.
Kitty and Rex as they pose with a picture with all the signatures that the members and friends signed that was presented to them. A picture of the Shriver Station name board with the signatures, that was presented to Rex and Kitty.
Kitty thanking everyone for a wonderful surprise in the naming of the station after her and Rex. A view of those overall that were in attendance for the ceremony.
A view of the signage declaring it Shriver Station. We had two signs made up with one mounted at each end of the station.
John Deptowicz helps steady the cake that Robbi Haines is holding low as Kitty and Rex stick their finger in the frosting and sample it. Rex and Kitty by the station for a picture with their namesake.
Rex and Kitty didn't know that we were having the dedication ceremony, she thought she was just bringing Rex for his 90 1/2th birthday party at our club run. With the celebration over the guys got back to their engines up on the steaming bays.
Ron Malinowski as engineer of Rex's train took Rex and his family for a ride around the track. Kitty talking with Amy Deptowicz about the surprise dedication we managed to pull off as Ethan Deptowicz looks at the station.
