Work Session - 4/13/11

The throttle on the Park engine had a point where the last quarter throw of the throttle increased engine speed but not ground speed, so we thought the suction line was a size too small for the hydraulic pump. Dave Foster and Joe Banzer discussing the size of the suction line from the reservoir tank to the pump.
Dave brought a larger size hose to install to cure the problem. Let's hope it works. The machined pipe insert, after looking at it, seems to have too small of an inlet ID and we need to bore it out.
The reservoir was upended to keep the hydraulic fluid from draining out and a cap was put on the return line and the cut hose is just laying over the engine. The hydraulic pump mounted to the engine driveshaft showing how the pipe fittings fit in place for the suction line.
While the work on the engine was progressing, Dick Clark and the track crew were working on leveling the track that enters into Horrendous. Dave's got the reservoir back in position with the suction hose connected and we'll soon be ready to try out the engine and see if it improved.
Rick Nagy taking a breather from tamping ballast between the ties on the newly leveled rails. The newly ballasted rail on the right hand side really looks good.
