4.16.08 Work Session

We added a train load of ballast to some areas and George Woodling is sweeping it level with the ties. George Metts and Dick Clark taking a break before we start adding a crossing track on the Park access road.
A view of the siding we are extending to tie into the Branch Line at Summit. Lew Fowler, Rick Nagy and Dick Clark waiting for George Woodling to finish loosening the dirt so we can remove it.
Progress is slowed by the tree roots encountered. We are using 5/4 x 6" treated lumber under the ties and Dick is sighting along the rail to see if we are low enough.
Meanwhile at the engine lift Ted Nyland and George Metts assist Dave Foster in replacing the push button switches damaged by water. Two sets of boards are already under the ties and the next row are ready to be placed in position.
Paul Emch is driving long deck screws through the ties into the 5/4 lumber beneath. Clayton Davidson joined us along with Wally Pausch and our boss lady Edith Hacker to see if we were doing it right.
George is blowing the dirt and depris from between the ties and along the side as Ron Trenhaile watches. We fastened the composite decking down to the track ties and prepared to add the side boards.
This is how we did it and how it looks without the side boards. A view of the opposite end of the crossing and how we screwed it down to the ties.
With the side board only one side, we ran out of lumber, Ken Brooks and George spread the ballast we dumped. A view showing the trackage looking east to the crossing from the Short Line.
