Work Session - 4/21/10

The station view that greeted me today when I arrived at the Park. There were so many trees with blossoms on them.
Mark Ross was checking out that pesky drive control cable that keeps coming loose on the work engine. We decided to check out the wobble in our turntable at the steaming bay so we lifted it off the post.
The steel bearing surface was wearing more so at the base than at the top. The pipe itself doesn't show much wear as it has a half inch wall thickness.
The track crew tackled a section of damaged track that is used for our two way running. After removing the existing rail and ties the ballast was removed and a new rail bent to the proper curvature.
A view looking from the other side of the work area. Wally Pausch, Ken Brooks and Dick Clark bending the rail to the proper radius.
Wally, Rick Nagy, Frank Foti, Ken and Lew Fowler relaxing for a few minutes and you can see the ties have been spaced out on the ground with one rail bent. Edith Hacker and Steve Zaken removing the leaves from last fall so that the grass can grow.
Dick Clark cutting the other existing rail to remove the damaged section with a battery powered saw with a carbide blade. At the steaming bay Ted Nyland, George Metts , Dave Foster and Ken Vendlinger replaced ties on the approach track.
After a break the guys placed the ballast and were tamping it into place with the track leveled. Another task finished and it looks good.
Edith and Steve cleaning out the leaves from under Festival Bridge so that the water flow is not impeded. Another view of the blossoms on some of the trees.
Ken Vendlinger cleaning off the weed whip after trimming around the area today. Wally and Frank load another trainload of ballast to dress up the track before dinner.
