Work Session - 4/25/2012

George Metts breadboarded a circuit to go along with the remote that he purchased on eBay to operate our railroad signal light at the steaming bays. Ken Vendlinger showed up today to cut the grass behind the station and here he is using the little mower to do the trim work.
Two duffers sit at the tables in front of the station to take a coffee break, George Metts and Lew Fowler. In the switch building shed, Ted Nyland is working on building another switch as he gets ready to assemble the points in place.
A view looking down on the pump mount which will need modifications to the motor shaft to shorten it for the spicer that will have to be installed as a coupling from the pump to the motor. Steve Zaken looks on as Charley McDonnell explains to Tim Guffrey the operations of the engine that they're going to try out today as George Metts watches.
Tim and Steve place one of George Metts riding cars on the track behind the little switcher engine. Charlie swings the turntable around to reverse the direction of the engine and the outcome was that the gearbox wasn't working right on the engine.
Paul Zorko showed up today and took members for a ride behind his new engine and this view shows them coming in on the mainline behind our station. The track crew was ballasting and leveling the track and here Dick Clark, Frank Foti, Steve Zaken and Rick Nagy working on this section of track.
Frank runs the train through the section that was just reworked to check and see for any deviations in the track work. In this view Dick is working on a section of track at Ahlin which is across from Mackey's Run.
A view looking at the track near Ahlin where the track was lifted a little to eliminate a slight dip that had developed in the track. Here we see Frank spreading the ballast that was added along each side of the track, sweeping it with the broom to level it out.
The leveling of the track continued as we worked on the Branch Line and here Steve and Wayne Boron work to tamp the new ballast in place. At High Creek we find Frank bent over as he's using "ole yeller"(a large screwdriver) to lift the track out of the existing ballast.
A view of the re-ballasted and leveled track section at High Creek. The guys are joined by Bonnie Zaken as they take a break from the tasks at hand as they rest at High Creek.
Back at the station I found Jerry Bell mowing the grass behind the station with the small power mower. Edith Hacker was busy raking and removing the leaves that had accumulated from last fall.
Up on the steaming bays Frank Foti had his conductor car turned over on its side and was adding brake line hose to it. Dick came over and gave him a helping hand in routing the tubing from the trucks to the end of the car.
