Work Session - 4/28/10

We lifted the turntable off the center post to drill and install brass studs. Bill Deptowicz grinding the steel frogs to modify them at the two crossings we have from the mainline to the Branch Line.
Frank Foti, Dick Clark and Rick Nagy were dressing up the track with additional ballast. John Koontz at the ballast pile loading buckets with the stone for the next train load.
Rick cleaning the ballast out from between the switch points and then checking the switch for proper throw. Dave Foster and Ken Brooks worked on drilling and tapping holes near the bottom of the turntable column at 90 degrees apart.
One of the four studs in place that Bill made. You can see two studs in this picture that are in place for adjusting the turntable column.
Edith Hacker trying to pull that pesky woodchuck by his hind legs out of the drain...not really just trying to get as much sediment as possible that has accumulated. Steve Zaken and Edith were working on this task to clean out the drain because of water ponding after a heavy rain.
Edith trying to find the other end of the pipe that has silted over and covered by grass. The turntable back in place and the brass studs adjusted to keep the table in alignment when rotated.
One of the modified frogs that Bill and Ken ground the approach and knocked the inside sharp edge for the wheel flange. Another pair of steel frogs that were modified by ramping the steel to clear a wheel flange.
Rick using the blower to get the leaves out of the drainage ditch so we can put in plastic pipe and cover it over. The finished results with the pipe in place and buried.
After cleaning out the pipe with water the elbow and drain were repositioned. Joe Banzer and Lew Fowler were helping Edith with the pipe laying to extend the drain.
Jerry Bell, Ted Nyland and Joe Banzer in the switch making shed. Ken Brooks taking care of the grounds by cutting the grass around the station.
Frank Foti giving a tie an attitude adjustment for the new siding that will be over the newly installed drain pipe extension. Frank adding more ties as Rick takes a break.
The existing grade has to be lowered to provide enough ballsast under the track so the high spot is being cut down. With dinner almost ready Robbi Haines, Pam Znidar and Kitty Shriver relax in the kitchen.
With the drain filled around with stone this end of the pipe drain is finished. The area at the discharge end of the pipe was graded off with stone and looks good and shouldn't be a tripping hazzard now that the end of the pipe is next to the switch stand.
