Work Session - 5/02/2012

Today Bill Deptowicz and George Metts are going to work on burying the conduit between the power source and the railroad signal light. Bill started digging and this is his progress so far before he took a break.
George drilling a pilot hole for the hole saw in the mast of the railroad signal light for the conduit LB to enter. Joe Banzer showed up and started helping by using the mattock to deepen the trench.
The track crew was working on moving the yard lead along the side of the Willis Car Barn because the tree roots had raised the track in that area. Frank Foti, Dick Clark and Rick Nagy checking out the rail that they had moved about 3 inches over to gain more clearance as you pass by the tree.
The view from the the lift shows the gradual sweeping S-curve that the track has turned out to be passing by the tree and with the re-balasting this section will be done. In the switch building shed John Koontz and Ted Nyland work on building a number seven right-hand switch.
Lew Fowler and George wait for the heater box to warm up the conduit sufficient to bend it as our needs required. Steve Zaken was working around us cutting the grass in between the different steaming bays where it was impractical to use the big riding mower.
Ken Vendlinger was using the weed whip to clean up around the support posts for the steaming bays after he cut the grass behind the station with the big riding mower. The conduit was bent and placed in the trench and buried and Ted is working on the air operated switch motor that is giving us problems as of late.
Wayne Boron is reattaching the hangar for the muffler because the exhaust pipe had to be relocated coming out of the motor down through the deck of the engine. Wayne's checking the angle of the pipe fittings and has applied anti-seize to the threads that will screw into the homemade muffler.
This picture shows the engine exhaust shortened to be closer to the engine and the new hydraulic pump mount bolted to the engine. A view from the side showing the exhaust pipe going down through the bed plate through the hole that Dave Foster cut with his plasma cutter.
This picture shows how much the exhaust pipe was moved closer to the engine and where the pump mount will have to be modified so we can get our heat wrapping around the exhaust pipe.
