5.10.06 Work Session

/tr>
We are going to level the track between Cider Bridge and Festival Bridge today. After putting down some ballast and lifting the track, Rick Nagy, George Davidson, Dick Clark and Frank Foti tamp around the track.
The stretched switch that needed new points was replaced with a completely new switch at Zip Junction. The switch indicator and control posts have been set in the ground at Zip Junction also.
The conduit in the ground that will terminate at the large junction box that still has to be mounted above ground. The mounting posts for signals and switches at Horrendous have been set.
The next crossover will be installed on the mainline at High Creek. The crew buried the conduit alongside the dirt mound for the track coming from Bruce last week.
The approach to the plate girder bridge and at right the bridge with the wood decking installed and the track fastened down to it.
The view from Filmor looking towards High Creek across the double crossing and the bridge. Dick eyeballing where the crossing on the mainline track will align with the track in the foreground.
Frank, Rick and Dick checking the position before the crossing rail ends were marked. Bill Deptowicz doing the cutting of the steel rails with a cut-off wheel in the grinder and our portable generator.
George and Frank remove the existing ballast so we can put down new ballast under the crossing. The section of track that was cut out and setting on a flat car to be saved for possible reuse.
The new crossing in position and we head for the station for a break. Frank, Rick, George, Clayton Dick and George at the station discussing the progress we made today so far.
Frank and Rick adding the ties back under the rail and refastening it back down. With the crossing installation finished Frank does the honor of riding the first engine over it.
Clayton, Lou and George tamp the track again that we reworked two weeks ago. Dick and Lou bend the aluminum rail to the proper curvature for the rail past the bridge.
Bill Bodemer, George and Rick wait for Dick to bend the other rail. This is the juncton box for the signals by High Creek that George piped the conduit up to it.
As the guys bend over the aluminum rail clip tabs another 10 foot rail section is completed. The section is joined to the rail sections on the end of the bridge with pressed on rail joiners.
A few ties are added under the rail splice area and the rail fastened down to the ties. Lou is adding the bolted on rail joiners to connect the next track panel just laid down.
Dick assists Lou as the others make up another track panel. At the station, the Lake County Leadership Group is starting to arrive with Carrie Bryant of the Park Services for a ride on our trains.
Frank Foti, behind a diesel!!!!, taking one of the groups for a ride. Judson Elliott was engineer for the next train departing the station soon to return for another load of passengers.
The last train getting ready to leave the station as the rest of our members finish up their suppers. After supper we started making track sections and laying them down as the track progressed towards High Creek.
Clayton and Ron are tamping the ballast while another section of track is assembled. The new track is approaching the High Creek crossover as darkness starts to settle in.
A view from High Creek, over the crossover on the main, towards the newly laid track. Rick and Dick, setting the last panel for the evening to connect up with the section that we used to align the crossover.
We made it up to the main line and will have to wait till another day to install the crossover. After we picked up the tools we helped Jerry Bell to move a 20 foot long switch he just finished.
Frank, Jerry and Dick are moving the switch because it's too long for the table to be properly supported. Rick grabbed on to support the middle section for the move.
The switch panel is placed on the ground and we won't have to worry about it deforming out of shape by overhanging the table. It's been another good work session today.
