5.11.05 Work Session

Edith Hacker restocking the shelves in the station after she painted the interior walls white. The new bridge on the Branch Line that has been dubbed the "Lionel" plate girder bridge.
A view looking West towards the "Lionel" bridge on the newly laid track in the Branch Line which has 45 foot radius curves and 3%+ grades which some of our 8' long cars don't like.
View looking East from the bridge into a sharp curve. Back farther showing the grade levels out somewhat in the straight section at the bridge, Dick Clark and Neil Smith are on the Parks' service road.

The end of track for the new Branch Line (looking west). The Park requires us to leave toppled trees where they lie so we cut enough for our right-a-way and roll the pieces out of the way.

Looking North down the grade towards George Davidson and the truss bridge you can see the orange stakes for the track location. Neil and Dick watch as Dave Foster sets up his lazer transit.
Dave trying to get a signal from the transit through the foilage. The black and orange banded stakes are the newly determined top of rail for the new bridges to be installed.

Dave checking the elevation at the centerline of track. Bill Deptowicz looking at the grade difference from top of rail to grade for which a lively discussion ensued about the fill required.

George driving a stake in as Dave, Dick and Neil watch. Will the the grade remain? Neil cleans off a switch we are going to install for a new siding on the Ahlin Y (looking along Mackeys Run).
Dave is opening up the aluminum rail clips, after switch location was determined, for rail removal. Dave and Neil remove the rail joiners and rail clips so the new switch can butt against the existing switch rail.

Dick measures for a piece of rail as Joe Banzer places new ties under the rail. Neil and George watch as Joe holds the ties up as Dave screws the steel rail down and Dick drives a rail joiner home.

A view of the newly installed switch ready for the ballast to be placed, but what's that? Kitty's ringing the supper bell so work comes to a grinding halt.
