Work Session - 5/13/09

The guys managed to ballast the track yesterday and make up two more track panels. The track looks good going down to the main line between Hilton and Gulch.
A view looking from the mainline up the track that will take you to the new storage shed eventually. Dick Schmidt welding new bolsters on his cars to get the wheels farther away from the bottom of the cars.
Ted Nyland is starting another switch which will probably be done in about two hours. Don Speidel is trying to fix a shovel by exchanging handles from a broken one.
Dick Clark is talking to Wally Pausch as Lew Fowler listens after Karl Losely backed his pickup truck with more cut ties in it that have to be unloaded. Karl and Wally are at the truck with the unloaded ties behind Lew.
The guys don't need much of an excuse to ride the rails but the shell of the GP38 is off again. Joe Banzer and Lew working on the throttle linkage to remove a binding in the linkage as Rick Nagy waits.
Ron Trenhaile is adding a remote switch stand with Paul Emch helping as Lew and Don watch their progress. Paul just removed the screws from the old ties that will be removed for the two new longer ones.
Ron and Don are in discussion about the switch stand as Lew and Judson Elliott watch. Rick loaded the first trainload on Ken's train of the Leadership Group that we were asked to provide rides for.
Ken coming into the station with his second load of passengers and everyone seemed to enjoy the ride. Rick approaching the station with Mike Harkleroad as conductor at the rear and of course a light rain is falling.
Ken with Lew as conductor getting wet from the light rain that is falling, seems every Wednesday it rains. Even with the light rain the group were willing to ride our trains.
The last load of riders and they can all manage a smile despite the weather, what a great group! Bill Deptowicz and Wally man the press and manage another 160+ ties after supper as Ken watches.
