Work Session - 5/16/2012

Bonnie and Steve Zaken bought new flags to be put up across our entrance ways and here Edith Hacker is assisting Bonnie with cutting them to the proper length for the openings. Here's how they'll look when they are set out.
In the Stanek Car Barn, Wayne Boron was trying to figure out the linkage requirements for the shifter for forward and reverse to our new hydraulic pump which has the control mounted right into the body of the pump. Wayne is unbolting the pivot point of the existing linkage.
Ken Vendlinger showed up and was behind the station cutting the grass with the riding lawnmower. Wally Pausch is helping to put foot pegs on the back of our GP38 because the folding foot pegs we bought are not holding up because they proved to be too flimsy.
Ted Nyland got some 5/8" dia. bolts and turned the threads off to use as a foot peg which rides in a pipe that has a slot milled in each end of the pipe between the two steps for a pin. This way when we put our engine in storage we can push the pin in for clearance or pull it out to use as a foot peg.
Wally's under the engine putting the pins in and that's Ted on the far side. The red GP38 was pushed back into storage and the Park's engine was rolled out on the lift by Lew Fowler and Wally.
From left to right, Paul Zorko, Paul Emch, Dick Clark, Lou and Wally with the engine on the lift so they can work on it. Dave Foster drilling an angle, that we had welded on before, that will be used to support the hydraulic oil filter.
Dave took home the mounting head for the hydraulic oil filter and made a plate to support it and has spacers added for the necessary height over the bed plate of the engine. The finished results of the mounting plate all bolted in place.
This view shows the filter screwed onto the mounting cap and another mini project is done. These are the parts that we removed from the engine, a log splitter valve, the hydraulic pump and hydraulic pump motor mount.
Wayne works on the wiring for the compressor for the air horns mounted up in the front of the engine. Ray Dellmore who is on the switch maintenance committee is shown here as he works on the points and linkage to keep them lubricated and properly working.
