Work Session - 5/20/09

Ken Brooks is tamping the ballast between the ties with a piece of rebar with a weight on the end. Rick Nagy approaches with the work train and a load of ballast on the Branch Line which is parallel with the lead in yard track.
We are bending the curvature in the rail and making up the track panels on the bench at the right. The next curved track panel is on the ground and just has to be moved into place and bolted in with the rail joiners.
Ken is dumping more ballast as George Woodling is tamping it in on a section that was done last week. At our new storage shed Dave Foster and Wally Pausch are adding aluminum tie clips to the ties as Lew Fowler and Joe Banzer watch the action.
Ken is supporting the rail as George operates the rail bender by the armstrong method. The GP38 is giving us battery trouble again and Joe and Lew are working on it as Ken looks it over.
George Metts, our resident electrican, looks over the wiring from the prone position as Joe watches. While this was going on the guys layed another track panel and connected it to the ballasted one.
Paul Emch is helping George to add the ties under the rail at the splices in the rail. We got another forty feet of rail down and ballasted and are getting close to the top of the grade to the yard as Ken and George take a break.
A view of the progress from the Branch Line adjoining the track towards the top of the grade. A view from the other direction looking West from the station.
It's nearing dinner time so we will have to stop for now. A view from farther back looking at the same location. It was a good work session, more track panels were made and placed along with the ties that the guys installed rail clips on.
