5.29.07 Work Session

We had a Tuesday work session to try to get ahead so the Wednesday group wouldn't be short manpower. Lew, George and Dave are nailing the header beams at the top of the walls that will all be bolted together later.
The building is 48 feet long and the header beams will support the roof trusses. Seems like we chose one of the few areas to build a structure that doesn't have shade from the trees.
They are aligning the board ready to nail it in place. We finished the south side with the header beams and they are taking a break.
The track crew have been coming on extra days and have ballasted the rail up to and across the diamonds. The crew are working dilligently trying to complete the Branch Line in time for the Open Meet the middle of June.
The crew has made up and laid track panels half way around the curve. Looking back towards the Canal Bridge that had track fastened directly down on it.
The track will continue through the cut on a sweeping curve that eventually winds up being on fill we placed before winter shown in the next picture.
The guys are working on the header beams on the north side and making good progress. The intermediate 2x4's are in place for the siding and most of the header beams are in place.
You can tell it's late in the afternoon from the long shadows and only three more header beams to place. Dave was either trying to test out our no workmans comp. policy or just being clumsy and trying to get out of work. It didn't work.
One header beam in place across the end of the new building and all beams are bolted in place. We have a tree that's dying adjacent to our existing storage shed and a limb came down and went through the roof.
The shingles overlap 5" so the branch was pretty close to that size. From the inside this is the damage that it caused. A temporary shingle has been placed over the hole to keep the rain out. No damage done to car below the hole.
