6.04.06 Public Run

The morning was overcast with a light drizzle of rain as Skip Frank pushed his riding cars onto bay next to his engine "LYNN". Kevin Harris is working on the body shell of the Conrail switcher.
Frank Foti has his Pacific on a bay and will soon start the process of raising steam. Skip has the blower on his engine exhaust stack helping the air draw through the firebox as steam pressure starts to rise.
This is one of our new signal heads with the clear lens for visibility in the direct sunlight. This is the switch stand used to clear the block as you leave it.
Franks' Pacific as it passes by the car barn. I rode his train for the required test run before hauling the public and you can see the steam from his whistle and exhaust as he approaches the crossing at Truss Bridge.
The exhaust chuffs ease off as the grade from Mackey's Run is almost crested and Big Bend Bridge is just ahead. Robbi Haines brought the food as usual and the members chow down before the start of the public run.
The line suddenly grows as the time gets closer to 1 PM even though the rain is a light mist now. A view at the station and the engineers have cleared out to bring their charges of steel around to the station for loading.
Paul Emch stopping at the station with one of the first loads of passengers as Roger Harnish stands by to assist with the unloading. Marcel Uhrich and the Hudson with the safety valve lifting as Roy Harris loads passengers.
Skip leaving with the cylinder cocks open to blow out the accumulated water from sitting. Frank leaving the station with his load of passengers as Brent Lane waits for the rails to clear so he can load.
Brent leaving and heading out onto the main line. The line of passengers never got too long today probably because of the misting rain, but the riders took advantage of it and some rode three and four times.
The Pacific coasts into the station where the passengers will unload. R.C. Yedlicka, our faithful counter of riders for each public run and Roy wait for an empty train to come in and load.
Jerry Bell as engineer with the WH & LE engine comes into the station with Rick Nagy as conductor. Ted Nyland with his interurbans approaches the station with his load of passengers.
One of our newer members, Rick Nagy is conductor for this train. Karl Losely on the Hudson at the station loading passengers as the sun just starts to peek through the clouds.
A view of the exhaust stack of the Hudson burning Ohio coal which produces a yellowish smoke. Brent checks the air in the wheels on the engine as Roy loads the train. Ya gotta maintain the equipment.
Joe Banzer takes over relief duty as conductor for Rick. Ted moves ahead so he will be next to load passengers.
Mike Uhrich, on bench, is the ever watchful eyes at our runs for trouble with our trains and is talking to Ron Trenhaile with Rick behind. Marcel at Horrendous as the Hudson starts to coast down the grade to Filmor.
You can tell someone doesn't like the sound of the deep throated whistle of the Hudson. Rex Shriver with his trainload of passengers starts to drift down the grade toward Filmor.
Frank with his train passing thru Horrendous and the sunshine is more predominant. After the public run Dick Mackey coached Rick on the running of the Hudson.
Rick is backing the Hudson up the track towards the turntable and the steaming bays. Frank making adjustments before we make a trip around the track.
Caught Marie Nyland watering the plants she planted at Bruce. Pam Znidar and Jerry Bell wait with the train for Marie to finish watering.
Karl watches after opening the blowdown valves on the Hudson. In another bay Frank watches the new Soler II water pump working that he recently put on his engine.
The happy face of a live steamer after running his coal fired engine, Frank Foti.
