6.06.07 Work Session

When I got to the track today Don Spiedel was working on riding cars checking and repairing the brakes. Don was checking the brake cylinders of the older cars we use.
A closeup of the brake rigging used on this car that is under the bolster. The crushed stone that we had dumped for fill, under the new concrete slab we will place, is being leveled out.
The limestone is being raked to level it out so the slab will have a uniform thickness. George Metts, George Davidson and Dave Foster taking a break from the leveling activities.
As the guys take a break I check out what the track team is doing with the extension of the Branch Line that aleviates the twenty-five foot radius we built last year which only a few of the locos could negotiate.
As we walk along the new extension you can see the "old" 25 foot radius to the right in the photo. This is where we merged with the "old" Branch Line and the mainline crossing is just ahead.
George Woodling with the broom as Rick Nagy, Dick Clark and Frank Foti take a break. They are going over the newly laid track to check for being level and retamping it after the rain we had.
A view from the mainline looking up the Branch Line where we diverted into the larger radius curve. One of the bottom boards at the new shed has developed a bad warp and we are going to replace it today.
George is placing a line to check out the steel concrete form rails we put across the front to check that they are level. We had to move the limestone out to place the rails as this view from the inside shows.
While we worked on the gravel for the new shed the track crew finished the Branch Line extension with leveling, ballast and tamping the stone around the ties which concludes another project in time for the Open Meet.
