Work Session

Work has been continuing on the track for the storage shed. This is one of the center supports which will also hold two tracks at two levels above the floor.
Dick Clark is drilling signs to set alongside of the tracks for the Open Meet as Lew Fowler watches. The guys are scraping the bottom of the pile for gravel to dress up the tracks for our Meet this weekend.
Dave Foster just brought another load of steel angles for fabricating the rails that span the supports. Dave weldingf the spacer "tie" plates between the angles.
Wally Pausch is getting more steel angle for another pair of "rails". The guys extended the track from in front of the steaming bays, over the tree stumps that were ground out, to the loading area for our Public Runs.
Lew is working with Ken Brooks to put safety chain hooks on the Park engine as they drill through 1/4" plate steel. At the right you can see the pairs of angle rail up on their supports.
Dave is drilling the concrete floor for a anchor to fasten the support frame in place. Dave is putting rail spacers between the 1/2" square rods that we are using for placement on the floor as rails for the cars.
Ted Nyland on the chop saw with Lew assisting with holding the steel as the angles are cut to length. The angles were burnt off to approximate length and the guys cut them to length with a nice straight cut for a butt joint connection.
The track crew reballasted the extended track at the station because of settlement of the soil over the tree stumps. Mark Ross was adding diagonals to support the overhang of the track in the steaming bay that was shortened for the new track extension.
Paul Emch is on the car inspection committee and is doing a safety inspection which all equipment will get. Dave butt welding the 1/2" square steel rail ends together before we fasten them to the floor.
Dave welding the ends of the angle rails together before the angle rails get welded to the support steel. George Woodling sweeping the ballast on the Branch Line near Filmor.
Ken Brooks looks at the cameraman as the ballast train sits at the Filmor crossing. Edith Hacker working at cleaning the drainage ditch and the culvert openings to clear them of debris.
