Extra Work Session - 6/12/09

Ken Brooks and George Woodling were hard at work leveling the right-a-way before I got to this extra Friday work session. They had made alot of progress from the end of the track and we were heading towards the new car storage shed.
By 1:30pm we had gotten most of the way down to where Ken is standing. I keep leveling the grade and Ken starting digging around our drainage pipe "manhole" that's going to have track running over it.
Ken taking a break from digging as the sun was really hot and I had been digging at the right. A view of the pipes converging in to the "manhole" that Ken had dug around.
George trying to stand on his head to clean out the pipes and bottom of the "manhole". Ken built the frame that went around the pipe to support the cover boards and they are going to check it's height from a grade stake.
They have the level on a longer board so they can set the height of the square wood frame so the track can sit on the cover boards. A view of the grade towards the track storage shed.
We hauled ballast gravel for backfill around the wooden form so it wouldn't rot faster by being in contact with soil. Ken made another frame to fit the first one to bring the level up to grade and is fastening the stakes in the corners with screws.
Ken is fastening down the top boards and we will top off the gravel around the frame. Before we quit around five, George wanted to replace a tie that rotted out in front on the station. All in all, it was a good work session.
