Work Session - 6/12/2013

Trouble again with our roll up door and Don Speidel watches as Frank Smoley works on a possible cure as sometimes the door jams going down and slips the chain. With the door all the way down Frank checks the switch limits on the door.
Paul Emch, Don and Scott Hewis move equipment around in the Willis Car Barn using the hydraulic lift. Dick Clark is filing the points of the switch to touch it up in this view.
Bob Beardslee and Marty Pinkston tamp the ballast after it was redressed from last week and that's Lew Fowler behind them looking over the situation. Richard Sales checks out the frogs and guard rails for stones that could cause a derailment as you pass over the switch, as the others continue tamping.
Frank Foti with the GP 38 testing out the new switch in the crossover from the branchline with the train as he talks to Rick Nagy. East Wind is probably in his storage shed crying his eyes out because Frank is running the diesel..... Notice the smile! That's Wayne Boron, riding behind him.
Marty spreads ballast, that Richard brought up in a wheelbarrow, alongside of the track and the switch. Track crew stands off to the side as Frank comes back with the train testing out the crossover and that's Bonnie Zaken on the conductors car in front of that good-looking caboose.
Bill Deptowicz grinds the wheel flange groove on the new crossing to open it up at the very end of the frog as the trains wheels were clicking on it. On the branchline we had a wooden bridge with just wooden timbers laid down and the support underneath was deteriorating and allowing it to sink when a train would go over it.
We put in bricks near the ends and shimmed it to keep it from deflecting as a train would go over it. Bricks were forced up under the opposite end to achieve the same goal.
Further uphill near the culverts at Horrendous, Frank Smoley was digging out the leaves that were blocking the end of the culverts under the track. On the other side of the Park Access Road near Zip Junction, Marty was clearing the leaves from the ditch so the culvert under the road was unobstructed.
A view of our switch maze at Lester taken from the Park Access Road looking West with the mainline to the extreme right. A view of the finished steel crossing that will allow us to come in off of the branchline and cross over the mainline on Ted's connection to get back into the station when you are eastbound which will turn your train to westbound running.
