Work Session - 6/19/13

Today Bonnie Zaken and Edith Hacker were burning up the small twigs and branches that they had picked up from the Orchard yard. Steve Zaken was using the push mower around the steaming bays to cut the grass.
We inspected eastbound track by Mackey's run which was reported to have a sharp kink or bend in the curvature of the track where the track has moved sideways. The head of the rail also showed severe wear on the inside edge which we marked for replacement to steel rail.
John Koontz, Frank Foti and Rick Nagy watch as Dick Clark prepares to drive a rod into the ground to keep the track from moving sideways. After that the track was leveled and raised a little and the ballast tamped by Frank and Dick as Rick and Bob Beardslee look on.
The crew got out the ballast car, filled it and Rick Nagy brought it down with the work train to the trackage at Mackey's Run to dress it off with ballast as Dick controls the flow and Frank watches. The line was reballasted all the way down to the switch at Mackey's Run.
Frank Foti operating the ballast sweeper started back from the Truss Bridge and ran towards the grade crossing at the Park access drive. After Frank continued past Mackey's Run, Rick knocked down the ridge of ballast beyond the sweep of the brushes on the ballast sweeper.
