6.20.07 Work Session

Working two crews today, one on the track and another on the car storage barn. We need to adjust yard track by leveling and adjusting the curvature of rail around the tree that seems to be growing and spreading the root system by heaving the track.
Dave Foster and George Davidson are adding expansion material to the forms for the concrete slab. Frank Foti, George Woodling, Joe Banzer and John Koontz removing track panels then the ballast.
Joe and Frank working on rejoining the track panels together. The track has been reballasted and George is tamping the ballast with a rod to settle it in around the ties.
With one yard track done we started on the adjacent track. Joe and George with Bob Beardslee look at the rail connection that has to be made.
Bob shoveling the excess gravel from between the two storage sheds into a wheelborrow. More of the existing ballast has to be removed as Joe shovels and George handles the pick.
Dave and George working with the foamstrip expansion material adding it to the forms. Joe watches Frank as he digs giving George a rest from swinging that pick which after a while seems very heavy.
With the track panel back in place the guys are bolting the rails ends together again. The expansion material is all tacked into place ready for the next stage which will be placing the concrete.
Jerry Bell is replacing the switch points, because of wear on the original ones, to remove a trouble spot. Limesone has been added between the two sheds and leveled out.
The stone has been placed and leveled between the grade wall and the form base to keep us out of the mud. Jerry is checking the throw of the new set of switch points he installed as Paul Emch stands beside him.
Bob Beardslee with the drill tightening the nuts on the machine screws for the rail joiners as Dick keeps the screws from turning. The two yard tracks finished with being relocated around the tree and leveled.
