Work Session - 6/2/14

Since I live 60 miles west of the track the sun was shining when I left home but a light rain started as I crossed the bridge on my way through downtown Cleveland. Downtown Cleveland was being socked in by the low clouds and the light rain.
This is what greeted me when I was approximately 1 1/2 miles west of Route 306, my turn off, which was a torrential downpour. The creek at the bottom of the hill going to Penitentiary Glen generally has a light rapids with many rock showing but the depth of the water running through clearly hid them today.
About 20 minutes after I arrived at the station the rain tapered off but left the area flooded. With water standing in many of the places I knew we wouldn't be in doing any ballasting today.
Wayne Boron, Frank Smoley, John Koontz sitting on the engine and Dick Clark had loaded two railroad ties on the work train and were headed to the bottom of the hill at Fern. The crew arrived there before I did and I could see through the trees that they had offloaded the two railroad ties at Bridge #6.
The two railroad ties will be placed alongside of the bridge for a walkway to make it easier to cross. Because of the different lengths of the cross ties on the bridge it makes it difficult to walk on.
A view from the other side of the bridge and the railroad ties for the walkway will be placed on the left side as viewed. This tree with its unusual root stands where one large tree was felled by the Park Service across the track from Fern.
A view looking from Fern towards the Truss Bridge and it's starting to rain again. A view looking through the Truss Bridge towards Fern which is at the far end of view and with this rain I don't think there'll be any more to this work session.
