Work Session - 7/06/2011

Dave Mroczynski and Steve Zaken work on the brakes and mounting the compressor for Steve's train on a steaming bay. Dave soldering one of the wires that will go into the controller mounted on the bulkhead of the engineer car.
Today we are going to work on the extension of the grade wall at the end of the Stanek Car Barn yard. A view looking from the opposite end of the grade wall at the end of the drainage ditch that will be up against our grade wall.
Back at the steaming bays, Steve watches as Dick Clark checks over the brake linkage with Dave and John Elliott looking on. Bill Besselman sitting on a conductor car in front of the station behind the club's GP38 that was out for a test run.
John Koontz and Judson Elliott roll a big hardhead out of the way of the grade wall as Rick Nagy, Dick and Paul Zorko watch. A view of the hardhead they moved, propped up out of the way of the grade wall by smaller rocks.
The team getting ready to lift a railroad tie into place using tie-lifting tongs. With two more ties in place, one bridging over the culvert, Dick sweeps off the mud before we place another tie on top.
A view of the gap we left at the end of the culvert for the ground drainage from this side of the wall to drain into the culvert. Rick cutting a tie to length with his chain saw for the gap in the wall behind him.
A view of the section where we decided to extend the lower course of ties over the culvert opening. The wall at the opposite end showing the gap that has to be filled with a cut tie.
Rick squaring up the end of a tie, removing the rotted wood. The completed wall looking to the west as far as we've gone today because we're running out of ties.
A view of our work looking back toward the Stanek Car Barn. Just in time -- Karl Losely is delivering another bundle of ties and about to dump them off by the lift by the steaming bays.
The ties look in good condition in the bundle from what we can see so far. Delivered and all ready to work with, but that will be for another day as it's dinner time.
