Work Session

The guys fastened the rail to the floor last week and the elevated rails will be welded in place for the center storage rack. The angle rail panels are aligned and just need to be welded down at this level.
Dave Foster is grinding off the weld as the support has to be moved about 3/4" towards him for proper alignment. We had to shim this support as the floor had a low spot at this point and Wally Pausch is drilling new holes for the floor anchors.
Dick Clark and Frank Foti are working on extending the track from the switch. This is a view from the far end looking back at them toward the new crossing that we decided to build in place.
Frank is watching as Dick and George Woodling move the track for alignment to the track in the foreground. At the equipment lift Mark Ross has just finished re-installing the pull cord in the work engine and the body on the club GP38 engine has been removed.
Meanwhile Lew Fowler and Joe Banzer are going to "jump" the battery and try to figure out why it discharges between runs. Inside the storage shed Dave has started welding the rails to the supports.
Wally is prying the angle support up to put the drilled shims in place. Rick Nagy at the rail joiners for the new track panels that extend toward the proposed rail crossing.
Both levels of the elevated track are in their aligned placement and the third support has been relocated and anchored down. Dave rewelding the rails down to the relocated support.
Paul Emch, George, Frank, Don Speidel and Rick take a break after placing rail across the existing track to see how the crossing will look. Dick has started laying down longer ties where the crossing will be to check for the needed length.
The guys have a good idea, as they have put two parallel strings at a spacing equal to the length of the ties we use. We replaced the existing ties with the longer ones and refastened the rail down to the new ties.
We are doing the tie replacement this way so we don't take the track out of service as we work on the crossing. Up at the station Mike and Dick are involved with putting the mower deck, that Dick Schmidt welded up before, back under the mower.
