Public Run - 7/10/2011


Skip Frank rolls into the station with his steam engine "Lynn" with just a wisp of exhaust showing. Don Speidel sitting astride the tender of Paul Emch's NKP Hudson detailed with smoke deflectors even though it is electric powered as he slowly enters the station area before the start of our Public Run today.
The line-up of engines gathered at the station before the start of the Public Run showing Ken Brooks electric engine, Paul Emch's gas powered SW6 NKP Switcher and the club's GP38. Ken Brooks will be running Don Speidel's SW6 and that's Paul Emch to the right with John Koontz as conductor for Ken.
It's still a few minutes before the start of the run and Bill Besselman will be our passenger counter for today as Kevin Harris passes by him between the trains. Out back of the station sitting on John Deptowicz's Snoopy train I caught Jim Harnish and Robbi Haines talking and enjoying the warmth of the sun.
Kevin talks to his Grandfather, Don, as the train is being loaded with passengers and are getting their riding instructions. With the train having been loaded by Bob Charles Bassett, Don opens the throttle and the Hudson starts it's first run today with the passengers.
On the ramp down from the steaming bay Mike Harklroad eases the Camelback down the ramp to the track on the grade to get his riding cars. Back at the station Rick Nagy behind the GP38 is all loaded with passengers, that Jerry Bell assisted with and is departing the station.
Paul with his NKP Switcher is leaving the station with his passengers under the watchful eye of Bill, standing to the left. Having just passed over Festival Bridge Tom Pappas will be arriving back at the station in a few minutes with his NKP Switcher and train.
Jeff Ridler passes through Shoe on his way to the Covered Bridge with his electric transfer engine. Paul Zorko running light taking his mandatory shakedown run before hauling riders comes out of the Covered Bridge all smiles for the photographer.
Ken Vendlinger with his Reading electric powered switcher at Zip Junction just starts to wave to the camera and is frozen in the acton by the shutter. Skip running ahead of Jeff through Horrendous with his steamer Lynn are well past the half way point for the ride.
Jeff gives a wave along with his passengers as they pass by the photographer on their way through Horrendous. Scott Hewis at Horrendous on his way to Filmor and points West with his riders.
Paul having passed through High Creek and bound for Horrendous with his load of passengers. A few minutes later Ken arrived near the same location with his riders and John as conductor.
Dick Clark as engineer of the GP38 with a full complement of passengers as he heads for the grade down past Filmor. Ted Nyland with his interurbans just rumbled over the diamond for the Branch Line with the clickity-clack of the wheels over the gaps in the rails.
Ken on the grade going down to Patty's Rock Bridge will soon start the 3%+ grade going up to High Creek. Tom going down the grade at Filmor with his happy load of passengers who look to be enjoying the ride.
Paul having just passed Hilde Hill will soon be passing through the Truss Bridge on his way to Mackey's Run. Don with the Hudson at Fern with this trainload of riders in this trackside shot.
Mike with the Camelback and passengers at the same location. Paul at Bridge #6 as he coasts down grade from Hilde Hill on his way next to Fern and the Truss Bridge.
Scott following behind a few minutes later is almost at the same location. Ken passing through Hilde Hill on his way down grade from Hilton.
Don coming off the Gulch Bridge starts the climbing grade to High Creek to level track at Horrendous. Mike on the Zenith Culvert will soon be at High Creek.
Paul passes over Zenith Culvert running a light load of passengers on his way to High Creek. With the run over Robbi and Marie Nyland go for a ride on Ted's interurbans.
Back at the station Ian Walton enjoys home made ice ceam that Marie and Ted made with Judy Oscker putting a scoop of ice cream in Alex Walton's cone with Katie Pappas behind Ian and Marie looking on. Linda Harris riding with Marie and Ted as they depart the station for a run in the woods.
Ken East bound through the station with an empty consist after the run. Paul Emch and Paul Zorko break down the trains and are putting away the cars in storage after another successful Public Run.
