Work Session - 7/10/13

Frank Smoley, Wayne Boron watch as Bob Beardslee drives home some track screws's to stabilize the rail on one of the steaming bays. The turntable in the center of the steaming bays had a mismatch with rail height when it was swung around to some of the steaming bays.
Frank was checking the condition of the ties and the tightness of the rail to them as Wayne watched Bob put in a few more screws. The track crew was going to get a load of ballast and that's Rick Nagy operating the engine to push the hopper car up the ballast pile siding.
With the ballast car loaded Rick started to back out of the siding and the ballast car derailed, that's Ken Brooks and John Koontz surveying the situation because now the car and ballast probably weigh over 1200 pounds. Yup!, All 4 wheels of the truck is off the track.
Dave Cryor and Wayne watched as John used a prybar to lift the car as Ken centered the trucks back over the tracks before the car was lowered back down... Success! Leverage is a great thing. Dave pulls out one of the chute plates in preparation for the train to push the ballast car towards the photographer and ballast that side of the rail.
Rick continued from the diamond for the Orchard yard to the Orchard yard lead crossing to lay down ballast as he pulled out towards the mainline spreading the limestone as he moved. Bill Deptowicz uses the ballast sweeper to level the newly laid limestone flush with the top of the ties.
Ballast sweeper sits on the crossover between the mainlines after Bill used the sweeper on the Orchard Yard lead in track to level the ballast. A view of the ballast that was laid down on the switch to Short.
A view looking back towards the station on the mainline with the newly placed ballast that was controlled from spreading by the remote switch throw rod. Troubles again with that roll up door in the Stanek Car Barn as Frank and Wayne work to adjust the limits/guides that seems to be hanging up.
With the ballast train at Pandora the guys are laying down ballast on the Pandora Wye crossover track to ballast that section. With the left side of the trackage ballasted they turn their attention to the right side of the track heading up towards Shoe.
With ballast layed down behind the guys we start coming towards the camera and up to the end of the Big Bend Bridge with some more ballast on that far outside right rail. A view looking from Mackey's run towards Ridgeway at the ballast that was placed and that's it for today.
