Public Run - 7/11/10


John Koontz waiting for a clear signal at Horrendous before the public run. Ted Nyland with his interurbans is one of the first runs as he departs the loading area with his passengers.
Chet Roberts with his steamer and Judson Elliott running Steve Zakens' Plum Cove box cab with Steve on the rear are about to pull out from the siding and load passengers. Bill Deptowicz as engineer of the GP38 waits for George Metts to finish loading his train.
Frank Foti opens the throttle on East Wind and starts gaining speed with Joe Banzer as conductor on the rear. Scott Hewis with his train fully loaded leaving the station.
Bill Besselman, our passenger counter today with Dick Clark adding coal to his diesel for the fire in his cab and Chet leaving the station. Dick's train is all loaded and leaving the loading area with Steve Zaken as conductor. (Were you paying attention?)
Judson Elliott leaving the station with a family of four who seem to be all smiles. Bill approaching the switch to cross over to the main line as he leaves the station with a fully loaded train.
Paul Emch in conversation with Ken Vendlinger as Kitty Shriver loads Kens' train. Pauls' train is departing with his passengers and Lou DeLembo is the conductor on the rear of the train.
Chet on the switch that crosses over to the main line as you leave the station. Ken as he passes through Zip Junction with his train and riders on their way to Horrendous.
John Deptowicz with the Snoopy train passing through the Truss Bridge will soon be climbing the grade at Mackeys' Run. Scott coasting down the grade from Gulch with John Koontz as his conductor.
Skip Frank with his steam engine "Lynn" at Bridge #6 coming down the hill. Bob Charles Bassett caught by the camera at Hilde Hill with his custom made engine lettered for the New York Central Railroad.
Ted coming down the grade and is just passing Hilde Hill with his interurbans and passengers. Ken Brooks coasting down the grade from Gulch with his train load of riders and Don Speidel as conductor.
Judson, at the controls of the boxcab, with his passengers as they pass through Gulch. Dick riding the brakes to keep his trains speed in check as he approaches Gulch with Steve as conductor on the rear.
Rick Nagy has just crested the top of the grade at Hilton is is applying some braking action to control the trains speed down the grade. Here comes the Snoopy train with John as engineer as he approaches Hilton with his passengers.
Rex Shriver with his electric powered switcher at Hemlock will soon pass through Hilton. Skip approaching Hemlock after passing through Drugery with Lynn giving off a light exhaust of smoke from her stack.
Frank approaches Hemlock with a loaded train as Scott backs his train back to the station after refueling the engine. Bob with his electric powered engine passing through Drudgery with his riders.
Look who is on a train for a ride ....none other than Smokey the Bear. The Park was celebrating Smokey the Bear today and he took time out from his busy schedule to check out Penitentiary Glen Reservation and to spend some time with the adults and kids and take a trip on a train.
Mike Harkleroad running George Metts' Camelback steam engine on the Big Bend Bridge as viewed thru the trees. Smokey coming out of our covered bridge as the train heads for Zip Junction and points beyond.
East Wind at Horrendous with Frank reaching for the signal to acquire the yellow signal with the happy riders and Joe Banzer as conductor on the rear. Back at the station, Pam Znidar, Edith Hacker, Bill, Bonnie Zaken and Judson eagerly await the train coming into the station carrying Smokey the Bear.
Frank had to stop outside of the station for traffic ahead and is just starting to make his way into the station now. Everyone is all smiles and Smokey gives us a big wave just before the train stops.
Edith and Bonnie give Smokey a hug (I hope Mrs. Smokey the Bear doesn't mind). Two of the kids that rode the train with Smokey along with Ethan Deptowicz and Pam Znidar pose for a photograph on this momemtous occasion.
Smokey took the time to take more pictures of the children in attendance to the occasion. Frank posing with Smokey the Bear and East Wind...Thanks Smokey for the honor of your presence today at the Park.
