Work Session - 7/13/2011


Rick Nagy as engineer waits for Roger Harrnish giving riding instructions to the youngsters as they take a ride after Roger gave his talk about trains for his Tremendous Trains Program he gives every year. Roger gives a morning and afternoon talk and the second half of the morning group are just passing through Shoe on their way to the Covered Bridge. This is a paid program to the Park and the youngsters get a engineers hat and a ride at the end of the talk Roger gives about engines and how they work and the purpose of the different railroad cars. Roger with his steamer on the turntable adjusts his program for the ages of the youngsters in attendance which are pretty well grouped by age with the Park when they sign up. Roger describing all the working parts of a live steam engine and how they functon to make the engine work.
Today is also our work session and after cutting the straps on the tie bundle Paul Zorko, John Elliott, Dick Clark and Bill Deptowicz, the photographer, are going to load ties on the train. Paul and John standing by the train after we loaded three ties on the work train.
The last group for the Tremendous Train Program today passes by Hemlock a few minutes into their ride with Rick as engineer and Edith Hacker as conductor. We placed another railroad tie at the end of the grade wall but the ground has to be leveled some more.
Paul Emch giving hand signals to Rick as he backs the trainload of the different cars used in Rogers program down the yard lead to the storage barn. A view of some of the variety of cars that were put on display that Roger explained what type they were and the type of products they transported.
Paul and Judson Elliott use the Stanek Car Barn lift to sort the cars and put them on the different levels of storage. Paul uncouples the cars as they are sorted for their different storage tracks as Judson eases them into the building.
Dave Foster looks at the piles of dirt as Bill throws some of it against the tie wall. The crew that assembled to help with the tie wall project.
A good way to get rid of the stones we encounted when digging out to level the base for the wall and the dirt backfill still needed to support the wall. Edith looking at how we framed the ties around the culvert opening.
