7.15.09 Work Session

Lew Fowler and Jerry Bell checking the dimensions of the forms one last time. Jerry digging out at the base of the trench to move the form over a little.
Don't worry Ken, it's just flat on the bottom of the tire as Jerry shovels out the concrete from the wheelborrow. Roger Harnish working to get the cement on the right side of the form.
Lew, Roger and Jerry working to move and trowel the concrete level with the form. Work continues so that they can achieve the finish they want before the concrete starts to set up.
Jerry troweling the center foundation to a smooth finish. Ken Vendlinger and Roger wait for the next batch of concrete to be completely mixed.
Ken dumps the concrete into Roger's wheelborrow as Steve waits for his to be loaded. While this was going on the track crew took out switches and track in the old yard behind the Ellis Car Barn
Ken Brooks and George Woodling were also working on laying track( trk #5) into the Stanek Car Barn. The guys are making good progress and soon we will have three tracks we can use to put trains into the car barn.
Karl Losely dumping the bags of cement into the mixing hopper as Ken readies with the water hose and Steve takes a few minutes for a breather. Ken loads the first wheelborrow load of the new batch.
Dave Foster shovels the concrete into the narrow form on one side as Rex watches. Dave and Lew scrape out the last remnants of concrete clinging to the wheelborrow.
Bill Deptowicz troweling the lower area of the foundation first is caught on the other side of the lens of the camera. The last foundation is troweled and starting to set up.
Back at the station I caught Edith Hacker going over the volunteer hours for the monthly report she has to do for the Park. Wally and Rick were scraping out the gravel to lay track between the switches.
Even caught Dick Schmidt digging out the gravel to help the guys. A view from the end of the yard ladder showing the progress the guys have made adding the missing ties to track #5 from the earlier photo.
You can see how much track that was removed that will be reworked to tie into the track behind the Stanek Car Barn. Rick, Dick and Wally confer on a problem with the length of track joining the switch panel.
Problem resolved by cutting the rail and new holes drilled for the rail joiners and bolted together. Ken is cutting off the end of the rail to match the edge of the doorway foundation and adding ties.
