Tremendous Trains program - 7/17/13

Paul Emch powers his Nickel Plate Pacific steam engine up the ramp to the steaming bays to put it on display for the Tremendous Trains program today. His Pacific steam engine is on one of the bays and the Nickel Plate SW6 switcher is on another as Ken Brooks looks over the display.
The 10 o'clock class come down from their orientation with the Park and gather around by Scott Hewis as he describes the workings and different types of engines that pull train cars. Here Scott has most of the kid's attention as he describes the different type of railroad cars and the type of loads that they would carry.
As Scott talked about the different cars and what their function was on the railroad to the kids he opened up the discussion for a question-and-answer period for the adults or the kids. Here Scott is answering a question from the crowd and seemingly has all their attention.
After the lecture and demonstration Scott invited everyone for a ride and here we have John Koontz at the controls of the GP 38 with his passengers and Steve Zaken as conductor riding at the rear at the end of the Big Bend Bridge. Scott with his train came by the same location with his passengers.
The group for the 1 o'clock session were 6 to 10-year-olds, whereas the 10 AM group was 3 to 5-year-olds and here the 1 o'clock's session listens to Scott about the different engines that run on the track pointing towards the 2 that will take them on their rides. Here Scott talks about the different cars and their uses on the railroad.
A view of the group as they work their way down the lineup of cars as Scott explains the uses of each one to the kids. Here Rick Nagy is at the controls of the GP 38 as it gets ready to depart the station with a full complement of passengers and Steve in the back, as conductor
Scott takes the remaining attendees for the session on his train and he is departing the station with Ken Brooks(who is also our club Pres.) as his conductor on the rear. A side view shot of Paul Emch's Pacific that was set out for display for the youngsters on a steaming Bay.
The GP38 with Rick as engineer arrives back at the station with his load of passengers. Paul Emch using the riders cameras takes pictures of them as they request when the trains come back to the station.
The 2nd load of passengers comes in with Steve at the rear carefully watching making sure no one puts their foot out or leans, turns around or takes pictures while the train is in motion. Between sessions club members get a ride on the train, good way to cool off with the heat of the day.
The kids from the 3 o'clock session showed up and here we see Scott explaining the different type of engines, the type of cars that were needed by the railroad and the introduction of diesels replacing steam. Once again, Scott goes down the line of the different railroad cars explaining each's function.
A lot of the kids were enthralled with the idea that they could walk up in touch one of the cars, some would even shake them. And once again, the high point after the talk was the ride on the train afterwards and here Ken Brooks is at the controls of the GP 38.
Scott's trainload of passengers as they depart the station for their ride after the scheduled talk. When the trains would come in Paul would be there, in case anybody wanted him to take their picture.
Family members were there also waiting to take a picture as the trains came back into the station with the adults and children. Scott rolls back into the station with his charge of passengers.
The GP 38 pulling another load of passengers as it enters into the Covered Bridge with Rick Nagy at the rear as conductor. Scott with his passengers have just emerged from the Covered Bridge and are on their way to Zip Junction.
Ken passes over the grade crossing as he approaches Zip Junction after leaving Horrendous and a few minutes will be back at the station. Ken brings the last train in from the Tremendous Trains program, stops in front of the station for the passengers to leave the train.
