7.21.04 Work Session

When I arrived at 8:45am things were already in progress. Roger Harnish was stripping off the old shingles while George Davidson was cutting "starter sets" for the new shingles.
Striping shingles down to the bare wood(at left) and George Metts(with hat)and George Davidson starting to lay shingles over new addition to station
Roger working on dormer found we had water damage to the sub-roof at valley. Wood would have to be replaced. The temperature kept rising toward the 90 mark but we kept on plugging along
At left you can see some of the water damage. Marty was removing nails in the bad section of wood to be cut out. This was the only bad spot on the roof
Roger sweeping off the roof so we can put down "ice guard" on the valley. Roger and Bill put down the ice guard, Dick Clark(in blue), Frank Russell and Edith Hacker picked up the mess
Marty working on wood removal and Roger trimming the edges
Dave Foster just cut out the bad section of the ceiling and is replacing the bad lumber at the roof overhang. At right a view of the roof with new shingles so far.
Dave lining up the 2x6 before nailing it in place while Roger and Marty take a break. A view of the progress the the west end of the station
The back side of the station with the shingles removed and some building paper attached
Break time!...Edith took a picture of Bill Deptowicz (LSLS Photographer)because she said I'm always on the other side of the lens. Our group trying to rest up. The temp. hovering at 90
Don Spiedel and Ken Vendlinger is taking a turn working on the roof. At right the first five courses have been started across the back side of station. Yes, another break time...
Don looking over the roof.....time to get back to work
Don and Ken at top of roof kept shingles supplied to Roger and Bill as the work progressed
Everyone moves to the left to add on to the rows of shingles started. The shingles were hot and soft. Had to take care not to damage them or fall off the roof.
