Club Run -7/20/13

John Koontz and Steve Zaken work together to transfer the gas in a large container to a smaller one as it's easier to pour the gas in the lawn mower. Dave Cryor using the push mower to cut the grass on the sloping area in front of the station that you also use to cut around the fence posts.
Dave cutting the strip of grass on the elevated area adjacent to the unloading area for the trains. Everyone took a break for lunch and a chance to relax before we get to the work again.
Judson Elliott and Dave Hird confer on the point throw of a switch by Drudgery and what needs to be done to improve it, by adjustment or just lubing. Dave oils the moving parts and the wearing spots for the points on the switch.
Frank Smoley, Wayne Boron and Lew Fowler work on leveling and re-fastening the guide track for the transfer car lift as some of the concrete insert bolts sheered off. Frank watches as Wayne drills a deeper hole for the new insert at the fastening point for the rail which is an inverted angle used as an upside down V.
Frank and Wayne wait for Lew to give them a shim so that the guide rail will be level when they fasten it down. The foreman showed up, Joe Banzer who is recuperating from knee surgery, therefore, can't get down and rub elbows with the guys refastening the rail.
The track crew loaded up the ballast hopper and here Frank Foti is taking it down to switch over to the mainline. Came back to check how the guys were doing a little later on and Wayne is drilling the last hole at the end of the 2nd guide rail and this project will be complete.
The track crew has spread ballast on the right-hand side of the rail for the South Yard Lead that merges with the mainline at Gulch. The crew continues ballasting the left-hand side going down to Gulch.
Dick Clark and Frank as they back up the train with the switch thrown for the South Yard Lead to do more ballasting higher up the hill. Bill Deptowicz running the ballast sweeper just above Gulch as he heads for the South Yard Lead.
Dick with the sweeper brush to touch up the areas that the ballast sweeper isn't wide enough for and therefore leaves a little ridge of ballast at the edge which we knock down with the broom. View from above the sweeper as Bill makes a 2nd pass to clear the ballast down to the ties and you can just see the ridge I was talking about on the left-hand side of the newly placed ballast.
