Work Session - 7/27/2011

Today we are going to make up new yard track and John Koontz is standing beside the gondolas loaded with ties. Frank Foti using a mattock to level out some more of the clumps of mud in the area where we are going to be laying track.
The extension of the yard ladders into our newly created yard area. John removing the screws as we are re-using some of our old ties for the yard which will see light use.
Frank using track gauges is screwing the rail down to the ties that are just lying on the ground. Rick Nagy and Dick Clark are working on adding the rail joiners to extend the track to the tie grade wall.
A view from where we tied into the rails looking at the extension where Frank is still fastening the rails to the ties as Dick checks the work. The rails have been aligned to the correct width, next they'll need to be ballasted on the line Frank is working on.
Frank's back has to be getting sore about now as he continues fastening the rails to the ties. With rail gauges in place, Frank continues his work fastening the rail while sitting on a cart that only has two and a half inch diameter wheels to keep it low, lighter and easier to reach the track.
Karl Losely arrived with one of the bundles of ties the club bought and shared a truckload with the Blueberry Railroad. With the truck positioned to dump them, the bed was raised and they are starting to slide off.
Don Speidel watches the progress as Karl pulls the truck ahead. A grade wall is going to be built from the yellow hand rail in the background towards the camera to extend the width of the unloading area -- our next project.
