Public Run

The Park put up a banner this summer commemorating our 25th year with the Park. Jeff Klein brought a display of steam engines, boiler on wheels and whistles.
A twin cylinder steam engine that was one of the engines on display. On the steaming bays we have from the small to the large, Marty Pinkston's Cli-Shay with Jon Jaros behind his Northern both of which are still under construction.
Frank Foti bought George Davidison's engine from his estate thus keeping the engine in the club. An overhead view of the steaming bays with Marty by his Clishay, Dick Mackey's Camelback and Roger Harnish watching the steam pressure on his engine.
Frank's East Wind waiting patiently for Frank to connect the tender to the engine with Richard Sales in background and Jon by his box car. Bob Beardslee looks over his switcher as his son Bob behind him talks to Roger.
Bob looks over the snow plow that Jon brought to display. Audrey and Chet Roberts take time out from getting their engine ready to pose for the photographer.
Roger taking a test run with his engine before the start of the public run. Kitty Shriver keeps knitting away as she looks at a keyboard that was set up and played pre-programned music during the afternoon.
Along the paved path to the loading area for the waiting passengers the Park put up a series of displays depicting some of our history with pictures and text.
One of the displays they put up with the time for the rides. Another one of Jeff's stationary engines on display.
Pam Znidar with camera watches as the riders wait to be loaded on the trains. Roy Harris gives instructions to the passengers as his son Kevin dressed as a conductor punches commemorative tickets that Ted and Marie Nyland designed and had printed.
Bill Besselman took rider count as Rick Nagy waits for Kevin to finish punching all the riders tickets. Dave Foster behind the station with his passengers will soon have to slow for the traffic ahead.
Ron Trenhaile in the woods watched the operation of the passing trains for any potential problems. Paul Emch with his NKP train just passed through Zip Junction with his passengers.
Frank showing the desease that some live steam engineers get...BLACK TONGUE from breathing in the engines exhaust. Tom Pappas starting the grade up Mackey's Run as the govenor on the engine increases rpm's to handle the load.
George Woodling coasts down the hill from Gulch as he passes over Bridge #6. Frank with another load of passengers but I managed to get a closer view of his affliction with the BLACK TONGUE.
Rick Nagy behind the GP38 with Cornelius Gould as conductor as they coast down to Gulch. John Deptowicz with his Snoopy train throttles back as speed builds going down the grade to Gulch.
It's a good spot for photographing the trains as I catch Rex Shriver starting down grade with his passengers. Skip Frank with his steam engine "Lynn" are at the crest of the hill at Hemlock.
Tom as he begins his down grade descent from Hemlock. Dick Clark passing over Big Wash Bridge and will soon add a touch of brake to slow the train as he descends down the grade.
Isn't that nice, Ken Vendlinger offers the photograper a drink for his dry parched throat. Richard Sales with his electric switcher at Hemlock.
Paul passing through Drudgery with his trainload of passengers. Good thing Mike Harkleroad didn't take the switch or I would have been wearing the engine, but he couldn't even if he wanted because the points are screwed down for safety.
See, I cured Frank's tongue with a wire brush..all the black is gone. Not really, he had a lump of coal between his teeth before. Rick just past Short at the beginning of his run.
John at Short with his Snoopy train and passengers. Rex with his electric switcher decked out with camera mounts for the photo runs he makes.
