8.02.07 Special Run for Ohio's First Lady

Our First Lady of Ohio, Mrs. Frances Strickland, paid a visit to Penitentiary Glen Reservation for a meeting and we provided the train rides. Mrs. Strickland is in the center of the photos arriving and seated on the train.
The first group of riders with Mrs. Strickland in the center about to leave the station. Frank Foti with his steamer ""Eastwind" had the honor of making the first run with Our First Lady and members of her party with Paul Emch ready to make the next run..
Frank passing Drudgery with Eastwind being careful to keep her smoke away from the ladies on the train. Eastwind passing through Zip Junction and you notice how little smoke she has coming out her smokestack.
Frank passing through Horrendous with his trainload of passengers on the way to the station. Frank arriving at the station and by the smile of Mrs. Strickland I would say she enjoyed the ride.
Mrs. Strickland after exiting the train. Dave Foster, our club president, was on hand to answer any questions and help load the riding cars. Mrs. Strickland and companion were in discussion about Frank's steam engine.
Mrs. Strickland listening intently to a discussion before moving on to attend a meeting at the Nature Center. Paul arriving at the station with passengers that will also head up to the meeting.
We waited till the meeting ended and Dave is giving riding instruction to the ladies on Frank's train. Paul is about to depart the station after Dave loaded his train.
Dave is handling the loading of another group of ladies on Frank's train. Frank with his passengers pose for a picture before departing the station.
Frank's train was the last run and Dave assisted as the passengers departed. Frank was thanked afterwards as he met some of the ladies he carried as passengers.
After the run I checked up on what the crew did to the building for Wednesday's work session, and found they got the plywood sub roofing up with the tar paper. In the rafters you can see the additional diagonal bracing that was required.
George Metts and George Davidson continue to work on the bracing of the building. A side view of the building with the roofing panels in place and the tar paper nailed down.
The view from the end of the yard really makes the size differential of the old and new storage building stand out. The crew is making good progress on the building and we are ready for the next session to add the siding panels.
Frank's Eastwind on the turntable at the steaming bays doing a blowdown after he dropped the fire. All in a days work and I don't think Frank would have missed this opportunity of todays run.
The track crew did some leveling and fill work at the Lionel Bridge on Bruce Branch Line.....did you notice that? They added a third rail to Lionel Bridge. How's that for scale realism?
I would say that makes the Lionel Bridge complete and I wonder how many will notice that 3rd rail? It took two train loads of ballast to build up the approach and level the track.
The view looking East across the bridge and now the burning question...Do we electrify the third rail? The tip for today...Think your rails are level and straight? Take a telephoto picture at a distance and it will show where work is needed as Don points out to Dick. This was taken at about 100 feet from them.
