Work session - 8/04/10

Karl Losely is taking the receptacle apart as he has decided to replace all the conduit for wire feeding this plug. Karl and Ken Brooks dig up the existing conduit leading all the way to the station.
It always seems that we encounter tree roots right where you have to dig and in this case to replace the conduit and set it deeper in the ground. Steve Zaken watches as George Raby gets some ties to start replacing the old rotted out ones.
With the new conduit in place Karl and Ken have buried it but this time its deeper. George supporting the end of the tie so it is in contact with the bottom of the rail to screw the two together.
At the other end of the station Dick clark is working on these panels replacing the ties. Edith Hacker takes a breather as Ken and Karl level out the ballast over the buried conduit.
Frank Foti and Ken bring the work train into the station with buckets to load more ballast that will be hauled away. We're not working George hard enough as he is still smiling but doing a great job for a newcomer to the hobby.
As Edith and Steve fill more buckets Dick and Frank take a breather as those buckets get heavier the more you lift them on to the train. You can see the track panels in the foreground have had all the ties replaced and in the background a lot more buckets need to be filled, tiring work.
The two 20 foot panels waiting to go back in place with all the ties replaced look good. With the ballast finally removed, the track panels repositioned, Dave Foster looks over our work.
Dick working on another panel which goes at the opposite end of the station, as Mike Harkleroad watches. A view with sixty feet of track with new ties laid back in the excavated area.
Dick has almost completed another 20 foot section out of the 40 foot of track that has to be placed in the excavated area. Another good work day.
