Work Session

George Woodling, Frank Foti, Dick Clark and I worked on straightening the track at the passenger loading area. We removed the ballast from one side of the track and tapped the track over into the correct position.
Dick decided that we should extend the track straightening through a switch with Frank removing the ballast. Dave Foster showed up so I went to give him a helping hand as he welded up the bar rail that fastens to the floor.
Going back to the station checking out the work done on the switches with Don Speidel and Lew Fowler looking at the progress. The angle rail was clamped to the support steel with rail gauges in place and welded.
The track crew moved operations to the 8 degree crossover being constructed at Drudgery and Edith Hacker was taking a break. This is what Edith was doing, restacking the ties from the car unloading area that we got from George Davidson's home layout.
Dave was welding a splice between rail supports using a MIG welder. We finished constructing and welding up the two upper levels of rails adjacent to the outside wall to the roll-up door.
A view down through the building with only the rail on the floor needing to be fastened down and this side will be done. Dave adding "tie" plates and welding them in place on the opposite side of the shed.
At the crossover the guys were using switch frogs for two of the crossing rails and had cut one of them in to the aluminum rail. Frank is screwing down the frog as George re-fastens the rail down to the longer ties we added for the crossing.
Using rail gauges to keep the rail they cut for the frog in alignment. Meanwhile, Dave finishes welding the elevated rail to the support steel on the oposite side of our storage shed.
Ken Brooks is checking the alignment where the rail will intersect with the rail at the crossing. Mike Harkleroad, Dick and Ken decided where the aluminum rail should be cut for the 2nd steel frog and installed it.
