8.12.09 Work Session

Ken Brooks and George Woodling transfer the last of the dirt from the covered bridge excavation to the yard. Ken working on changing the switch throw to the left side of the switch.
A view looking toward our car lift between the two car storage buildings. The track will be extended to the far end to have access to the lift as it used to be, before we started construction of the Stanek Car Barn.
The engine crew, Lew Fowler and Joe Banzer watch as Dave Foster checks the cut out relay on the compressor which didn't want to shut off. The contacts on the relay were burnt so it will be replaced.
Don Speidel using a mattock to clear the ballast from where the track panels will be placed. Mike Harkleroad, Rick Nagy and Dick Clark work at joining the track panels together.
Judson Elliott, Lew and Joe having a discussion as Don screws the ties down to the railroad tie grade wall at the end as Mike watches. The covered bridge crew gathering for todays work session.
Kitty Shriver and Lew watch as Jeff Stanek cuts a panel to close in the peak of the roof from the cupola opening to the end of the roof. Pam Znidar steadies the ladder for Mike Uhrich as he and Jerry Bell fasten down the panel.
With the tar paper in place up to the peak Jeff started fastening down the shingles. Here we have Kitty waiting for the wind to blow strong enough so she can fly but the shingle didn't make a good wing.
Jeff is placing the third and fourth row of shingles as he moves across the roof and Kitty is keeping him supplied with shingles. Jeff is doing a great job of placing the shingles as Mike and Jerry discuss sway bracing.
Mike and Jerry under the roof at the North end of the bridge. As darkness settles in we will shortly have to start picking up all the tools and put them away till the next work session. It was a good work session today.
