Public Run - 8/14/2011

Since we had a heavy rain this morning, Rex Shriver has his electric switcher under cover as Robbi Haines loads his train. The crowd of riders wasn't very large today, possibly because of the weather.
Joe Vasko has just pulled up to the loading area with his B & O Chessie System switcher and waits for Robbi to load passengers on his train. Ken Brooks near the start of his run as he passes over the Park access drive on the Main Line as he heads for Hilton and points West with Don Speidel as conductor.
Dick Clark at Hemlock as he heads for the grade from Hilton down to Fern with his SW1500 Western Maryland switcher. Rex with his passengers coasts down the grade as he passes through Gulch.
Ken passes through Gulch on his way to Hilde Hill with his riders and Don as conductor. Frank Foti after having passed over Gulch Bridge takes the grade up through Gulch to High Creek with John Elliott as his conductor.
Rick Nagy on the grade down from Gulch will soon be passing through Hilde Hill and Fern with Lew Fowler as his conductor. Mike Harkleroad at the controls of the Park engine as he follows Rick down the grade from Gulch.
Dick just passing through the Truss Bridge will soon start the grade up Mackey's Run. Judson Elliott coming off the Truss Bridge at the controls of Steve Zaken's box cab with Steve behind him and Paul Zorko on the second rider car.
Paul Emch with his Nickel Plate switcher passes through the Truss Bridge and shortly will be rumbling over the Big Bend Bridge. Frank blasts through the Truss Bridge with East Wind hardly working as they take the grade at Mackey's Run.
Karl Losely at the controls of Rex's switcher as he's about to pass over the grade crossing of the Park access road just before Mackey's Run. Scott Hewis at the controls of an SW6 at Mackey's Run will soon be rumbling over the Big Bend Bridge.
Skip Frank making his shake-down run passes by Mackey's Run. Joe having passed through Mackey's Run passes by the photographer and it looks like all the passengers are enjoying their ride even though it looks like it could rain at any minute.
Ken having just passed through Horrendous will soon be headed down grade to Filmor and Patty's Rock Bridge. Dick passing through Horrendous with his passengers with Pam Znidar as conductor.
Judson driving through Horrendous but this time he has a load of passengers behind Steve. Dick entering Horrendous after having passed through High Creek will soon be riding through Zip Junction.
Mike having left High Creek will soon pass through Horrendous and points West. Paul passing through Zip Junction and the Park grade crossing as he enters Horrendous from the opposite direction.
Framed by two trees, we catch Frank passing through Zip Junction with East Wind. Ken, having just left the station, passes the switch that takes you to Short where the photographer is standing.
And down came the rain and we had to halt the run as the club members stood around under the shelter of the station house. The equipment was quickly covered and the riders scattered for the shelter of their cars as we were only a little over an hour into the run.
Robbie, Dave Foster, Judy Oscker and John Elliott are waiting for the rain to pass. Robbi as "see no evil", Dave as "hear no evil" and Judy as "speak no evil" give John a good laugh.
Even with the rain continuing, Robbi and Dave can laugh about the weather. Jerry Bell, Pam and Dick in conversation as they wait for the rain to stop.
Mike having a bad hair day is all wet from trying to protect the equipment from the rain. I guess the rain is not going to stop any time soon as it starts to come down harder.
And rain harder it did as the puddles of water formed along the track. It is really pouring now and the puddles are forming a lake -- this public run is definitely canceled.
Everything around the station is under standing water as the rain continues to pour down. The base of this switch stand is barely out of water as the drainage ditch there can hardly handle the volume of water passing through.
Pam Znidar took the following two photos in the rain with one by the Water Tower and the second photo of Frank doing the blow-down of East Wind up on the steaming bay.
