Work Session - 8/24/2011

Today we were working on the Branch Line near Filmor to replace the outside aluminum rail on the curve that was showing considerable wear and here we see Rick Nagy pounding flat the existing aluminum rail clips. Frank Foti is anfiling the end of the pre-bent steel rail to remove any burrs for the rail splice clips.
Frank places the rail gauges between the rails prior to fastening down the steel rail to the existing ties. As Rick continues to work up the curve hammering down the tie clips, Wayne Boron takes a breather.
With Paul Zorko and Wayne watching, Dick Clark adjusts the radius bend with finesse after coming out of the rail bender. Wayne and Dick are checking the fit of the radius the rail was bent to as Paul looks on and Frank continues to fasten down the rail.
Well, we're all done and we added 30 feet of steel rail to the outside curve and the guys are packing up to move to the next work area. Back up at the Stanek Car Barn, Paul, Lew Fowler and Joe Banzer work on the Park engine.
Rick using his weed whip to chop down the weeds that have grown where we are going to put in a new storage/run around track at the end of the yard. Frank moves the work train up to the end of the yard to pick up some railroad ties and see he doesn't have to wait 45 minutes to steam up to move an engine.
Rick snapped this shot of Frank, Bill Deptowicz, Dick and Wayne loading the train with used railroad ties. We had to throw down some ballast to keep the rail out of the mud and here the guys are taking a break as Frank places ties at the far end under the new rail.
A view of the progress as we broke for lunch. Paul Emch and Don Speidel doing an equipment inspection on a rider car up on the lift behind the Stanek Car Barn.
Paul's raising the lift prior to getting another car out of the barn for inspection as Don assists. After lunch work continued on laying the track with Frank continuing to install the rail as Wayne places ties under the two rails.
Wayne getting up to stretch his legs and give his knees a break from placing the ties under the rail. A view of the progress we made today with this new storage/run around track leading into the old yard leading to the Willis Car Barn.
