9.01.04 Work Session

At left is the new stub Service Siding alongside of the steaming bays. Looking East over Festival Bridge and the switch that was put in for two way traffic behind our station
Track that was put in between the two main lines from switch in preceding photo. Dick Clark and Dave Foster at Cider Bridge removing the rail so we can shorten the bridge
After the rail has been removed Dick is trying to decide where to cut the bridge timbers. A sawsall is the tool of choice along with our portable generator.
Mark Ross removing the old aluminum rail clips while Dave watches. Dave and Dick overseeing George Davidson starting the cut through the center of tie over bridge support
George handling the sawsall trying to cut the wharf piling beam. Dave taking a turn at it after we decided to move over and just cut the two 4"x12" support beams
The portion of the bridge to be removed is to the left of George. It took four of us to lift that portion of the bridge and move it out of the way
A view of the removed section that we can use elsewhere. This view looking West back at Cider Bridge which is now shorter and the tree roots that were taking over
Mark in foreground and George joke about the gap in the rails. Do you think the slow order speed sign will help? I calculated that at 42.3 mph a train could jump the gap.
Mark posing another problem for the trains,..we've been working too hard... Dave and Dick staring to unload a trainload of dirt in five gallon pails to fill in the gap created
We wound up using six train loads of dirt to fill in the gap. A view looking back at the bridge over the dirt fill. We compacted the layers created with each load of dirt
Ken Vendlinger manning the tractor for grass cutting this week. Ron Trenhaile and Dave looking over condensate problem in the control box relay for the automated switch
The old section of bridge removed and the fill almost completed. Ron, George, Dave and Dick dressing off the fill with some ballast
George is raking the ballast level for the ties but darkness is settling in. A view of the new ash pit installed and the grating that Dave Foster provided
Dave Schweitzer and Bill Bodemer lift the pipe as Don Spiedel, Ken Vendlinger and Bob Beardslee watch. Bob is guiding the pipe as Dave is hammering it home while Edith Hacker is digging in background
The pipe is being stubborn and just doesn't want to mate up with the existing pipe. Edith Hacker who along with Don did most of the trench digging. That's Bill climbing out of the trench
