9.05.07 Work Session

Work has been continuing on the new storage shed and a steel door has been installed at the West end. George Davidson and George Metts are putting up the mesh under the overhang that will keep out birds and bugs.
Edith Hacker is getting ready to paint the inside of the doors for the car storage barn. Todays project is to adjust the reverse curve we have between Filmor and High Creek.
The curve coming off the plate girder bridge is a little tight for Frank's Pacific so we dug out alongside of the track to move it over. You can see how much we moved the track gradually to increase the curve radius.
As we got closer to the tangent point of the two curves, where we had taken the rail joiners off, you can note how far the track was moved. The tangent point of the reverse curves showing how far the track was moved over.
While the guys took a break I checked up on Edith and she was working in the hot sun painting away. In the last several weeks Edith has painted all five of the the structures we have, a real worker.
The second work crew were cutting up the trees that the park system cut down. They were cutting up the tree trunks into manageable pieces that we could roll out of the way as can be seen in this photo.
Anyone for a coffee table? George Davidson using the pry bar trying to free the wedges in the cut as George Metts, Lew Fowler and Dave Foster contemplate the situation because the tip of the saw blade hit the dirt and dulled the blade.
Currently the tree is winning as the block isn't cut all the way through. Got another picture of Lew, on a long telephoto shot, relaxing after working with the tree trunks.
A view from the end of the yard track showing why we had to move the downed trees for the new yard ladder tracks. A view from High Creek showing how the other curved track was moved to align with the first section we worked on.
Rick Nagy is going to place a tie under the rail joints as George Woodling watches. Frank Foti and Dick Clark are joining the rails back together with the rail splice plates.
With the rail joined the guys are going to start putting new ballast down so we can level the track. With the track leveled and tamped George is sweeping off the excess ballast and removing it from between the rails.
Dick and Rick continue tamping the ballast as George farther down the rails continues with the sweeping. At supper we celebrated Rex Shrivers 84th birthday with a cake and I caught Rex blowing out the candles.
Some of the members sharing supper and wishing Rex "Happy Birthday!". Edith Hacker, Jerry Bell, Pam Znidar and Kitty Shriver were sitting around the side of the building at the picnic table.
Jerry Bell was instrumental in finding someone who wanted our pop machine we had in our switch building shed and its loaded and ready to travel. The local woodpeckers must not appreciate our sign as you can see by their handiwork.
Pam still leary of that guy that walks around all the time with the camera.....me. Kitty explaning the coloring book in front of her and dubious of the camera man.
