Public Run


A rainy start this morning for the Public Run for Bug Day in the Park. Dick Mackey tending to his Reading Camelback steamer up on the steaming bay.
Marty Pinkston's CliShay sitting on a steaming bay in the rain. Frank Foti watches the pressure gauge in the cab of East Wind as the pressure rises.
Lynn sitting impatiently as the steam pressure builds in her boiler. Roger Harnish's engine sits all wet on the steaming bay waiting for Roger to start a fire in the firebox.
Ken Vendlinger moves his train into position at the station to wait his turn to load passengers. Dick tops off the water in the tender of his engine as Judson Elliott checks his passengers before the start of his run.
Marty with his electric powered scratch-built boxcab about to leave the station. Today our passenger counter is Bill Besselman who will dutifully count each passenger that boards a train today.
Rick coasts into the station with his load of passengers with Pam Znidar as conductor of his train. Judson arriving at the station with his train and at the rear is George Woodling as conductor.
Frank crossing Big Bend Bridge blowing the whistle for the camera man as the exhaust barks as East Wind is enveloped in steam. Dick adding coal to the firebox as the passengers ready themselves for the next run.
Kitty Shriver is loading the passengers onto Roger's train. Ted Nylander with his two interurbans and passengers across from the steaming bays and do you notice the bright sun shinning.
Mike Harkleroad with Joe Banzer as conductor take the switch that will guide the train out on the main line. Tom Pappas and his trainload of passengers with John Deptowicz as conductor are ahead of Dick who has to wait for the switch to clear.
Scott Hewis waits to load as Robbi Haines loads Rex Shriver's train under the watchful eye of Bill. Steam at the station with two engines in at once, Roger's and Frank's.
Ted leaving on another run as Paul Emch checks the safety chains between the cars behind him. A low angle head on shot of Dick's Camelback as he tops off the water in the tender with Tom departing on the adjacent track.
Rick with the GP38 at Zip Junction heading for the road grade crossing. Rumbling over the wooden trestle bridge is George running the NKP Special.
Scott on the grade crossing just past the Trestle Bridge gives a wave for the camera. Jerry Bell at the controls of the switcher giving Rex a break so he can stretch his legs.
Skip blowing the whistle for the grade crossing as Lynn starts into the grade at Mackey's Run. Dick with his engine spewing the steam from it's stack as it crosses the Trestle Bridge.
A good spot for train pics as Tom rumbles by with his trainload of passengers. George passing thru the bridge with Paul Emch as his conductor at the rear of the train.
Don Speidel with his train after just passing thru Fern. Richard Sales riding his unique operators car which gives the appearance of a laid back engineer.
Roger with his trainload of passengers coasting down Hilde Hill as he approaches Fern. Don throttled back as his train and with the engine exhaust making it look like an application of brakes making the smoke.
Richard glides down Hilde Hill with his passengers as I frame the telephoto shot. Rex coasting downgrade from Filmor as he just starts crossing over Patty's Rock Bridge.
Dick Schmidt with his little gas powered switcher leaving the station with a load of passengers. Skip leaves the station with the cylinder drain cocks open to relieve the condensate.
Who said diesels don't smoke...they do if they are in the station with a steamer. Robbi checks the line of waiting passengers to load the next train to move into the loading area.
