Work session - 9/08/10

Wally Pausch and Bill Deptowicz spacing new ties under the rail between the old ties that will be removed after we fasten the rail to the new ties. Rick Nagy and Dick Clark in the background as Paul Zorko and John Koontz fastened down the new ties.
Edith Hacker picking up the old ties that will be disposed of. View of the ballasted area up to the switch east of the station.
View of the track panels put in place on top of the newly ballasted and leveled right-a-way for track #2. You can see the new ties placed between the old ties as Jerry Bell fastens the rail to the new ties.
Need a flat surface?. Just place the new the track panel on top of an existing panel as John, Dick and Paul are doing at the east end. Working at the rail splice at the west end, Wally and Rick fill in the space with new ties between the track panels being joined.
Jerry and Bill adjusting the height of the rail under the watchful eye of our Trackmaster, Dick, who is laying down on the job sighting down the rail. Wally and John spreading the new ballast before the track is leveled at the east end.
Wally continues with the backfill of ballast as the others take a break. John tamping the ballast between the ties at the east end working up to the switch.
A view looking east across the front of the station will all the track panels bolted together, all 100 feet of track back in place. We decided the existing switch was setting too high so we removed it and dug out the existing ballast below it.
The track with enough ballast between the ties to level it and tamp it in place. With the ballast removed the switch was put back in place and Jerry is connecting the steel rail with the slide on rail joiners.
Karl Losely brought some ties and a power saw to cut them and made a one tie high grade wall across the front of the grassy area in front of the station. He also extended the last step down since we lowered the gravel by three inches creating another step.
Roy moves the wheelborrow as Lew Fowler and Don Speidel watch Karl tamp the ballast to level the tie. Jerry connecting the track panel to the switch as Edith and Dick watch with the track just needing to be ballasted and leveled.
