Public Run - Part I - 9/08/13


Today is Bug Day at the Park and we celebrate it with a Public Run. Dick Clark and Rick Nagy talking to our president Ken Brooks, engineer of the GP38, who is about to depart with his family for a ride before the run. Chet Roberts with his scratch-built engine giving Jennifer Legan and Paul Emch a ride.
Bill Besselman standing with his wood carved bear and as always in a humorous mood. LSLS member Steve Tomko talks with Frank Foti as he readies East Wind, up on one of the steaming bays, for the run.

John Deptowicz made up the pipe frame for our banner and was putting it together along with Frank Smoley aided by Logan Tapolyai to secure it to the railing posts alongside the tracks by the trains loading zone. Skip Frank departing the station with his 1st load of passengers aboard his circus train.
Ron Malinowski was our passenger counter today for the run and that's Lois Smoley, one of our conductors, sitting beside Ron at the station. Robbi Haines was loading trains and is waiting for the next train to unload its passengers and pull ahead so she can load it.

Ken Vendlinger with his train as he rumbles through the Truss Bridge on his way towards Mackey's Run and the Big Bend Bridge. After coasting down the grade from Hilton to Fern, Rick heads for the Truss Bridge with his passengers.

Judson Elliott coasting down the grade with his train and passengers by Hilde Hill with the fallen trees that the Park felled early spring this year. John as he ascends the 3 1/2% plus grade up from Gulch Bridge to High Creek with his Snoopy train which takes the grade in stride.
Dick having passed through Hemlock and crossed the Big Wash Bridge is at the Branch Line crossing at Hilton as he starts his downgrade run through Gulch, Hilde Hill and Fern. Minutes later, John follows along and is at the same location with the Park engine as he starts his downgrade run.
Kenny gives a wave just before the wheels start clickety clacking over the crossing of the gaps in the rail for the crossing. Rick with a full load of passengers passes by Hemlock as the passengers wave and Lew Fowler is his conductor.
Paul having just passed through Drudgery, is on his way towards Hemlock with another load of passengers minutes into the start of this run. John just having passed through Horrendous with his passengers and Jennifer, his conductor, will start the grade down past Filmor to Patty's Rock Bridge.
Jerry Bell using his laptop to time the trains going by through Horrendous to check their speed, with Alan Jesunas and his friend at our train watching station. Ken at the controls of the GP38 as it passes by Drudgery and that's Harry as his conductor as they head for Hemlock.
Jennifer coming into the station with her dad's train at the end of her run to unload the passengers, then move ahead to reload another group. Rick coming into the station with the GP38 and takes the switch to move over to the mainline track #2.
Bill Deptowicz arriving back at the station on mainline track #1 at the end of his run with the Snoopy train. Jennifer reaches out to throw the switch so she can move her train to the mainline track #2 as she comes into the unloading area in front of the station.
After dumping his ashes, Skip ran light around the track and here he comes in on the loop behind the station to pick up more passengers. Frank with East Wind after he just passed Thorn is on the back loop behind the station and nears the end of his run.
John passes by the photographer behind the station on the back loop as he nears the end of his run with Diane Hopp, as his conductor. Arriving back at the station, Jennifer with the Fireball Express slows the train as her passengers wave to the photographer.
A view through the trees of Ken as he just passed over Cider Bridge on his way back in towards the station. Dick with his train as he passes by the same location following a few minutes behind will soon be rumbling over the Festival Bridge.
