Work Session- 9/12/2012

Today work continues on connecting the rails to the new crossing we put on the mainline which will be connected eventually into Short. Frank Smoley is cleaning out the ditch on the far side of the access road so we can put the PVC pipe underneath the trackage for the continued drainage of the area.
Frank cleaning out under the track that we had placed down last year near the end of our operating season before winter set in. From the crossing on the mainline we scarfed out the dirt and started bending rail for the curvature that we are going to require for the access road crossing.
Frank continues with his task and the crew bent the rails for the sweeping curve across the Park access road. Paul Zorko and Frank start placing ties underneath the rails leading up to the crossing and will soon start fastening the rail down to them.
The rails have been fastened down to the ties on this side of the crossing as the guys move their operations to the opposite side of the mainline which will eventually cross the Park access road. We cleaned out the trench on this side of the access road for another culvert pipe and Frank and Lew Fowler are fastening down the rails to the ties.
Another view of how far the guys have made progress from the crossing which is behind them as they approached the area of the culvert. Hey guys look up at the photographer, all right get back to work because we will be taking a break pretty soon.
Break time! You can see the progress we have made up to this point at the ditch which will have to be dugout a little deeper to allow clearance over top of the PVC culvert pipe for the ties. After the break Frank Foti was assisting Frank Smoley with the fastening down of the ties as they made progress across the road under Dick Clark and Rick Nagy's watchful eyes.
Frank using the screwdriver and Lew using the tie lifter working in unison making progress with the work at hand. A view from where we started in the morning looking down across the mainline crossing to the new trackage being laid on the access road by the guys.
Edith Hacker, Jerry Bell and Lois Smoley, sitting in a chair, watch the progress of the tie laying as they are close to connecting up the rail on the far side of the access road. A closer view of the work area and it looks like the guys have at least one more panel to make up in which we will have to cut the rails to length and that's it for today.
