8.14.05 Work Session

Don Spiedel and Paul Emch roll a railroad tie down so that with Dick Clark and Bill Deptowicz we moved them on the other side of the yard. The clubs work engine needs work on the hydraulic drive.
Mark Ross tackles the job of removing the drive on our lift. George Davidson going for some tools as Edith Hacker and Paul fill buckets with gravel.
Both rails have been laid on Justin Tyme Bridge and todays project that Dick and Bill will be working on is installing the guard rails on the bridge.
Dave Foster and George Metts worked on laying underground signal cable. George brought his Mantis tiller that he put two 10" carbide saw blades with a spacer between them and "tilled" a trench for the wire.
The tiller even cut through roots with those blades. Very clever, George. One set of guard rails cut to length, bolted together and ready to be fastened down to the bridge deck.
Here's a sight you don't see. The clubs GP38 hauling the work train. Hopefully Mark won't have too much trouble getting parts for the work engine.
The guard rail has been fastened down on the crossover rail from Branch Line. Both guard rails are finished and the wooden curb along the bridge decking ends has been fastened down.

Here's a better view of the wood curbing at the edge of the decking. Ron Trenhaile and Ted Nyland watch as Jerry Bell replaces some switch points on a track leading into our yard.

Frank Foti drills thru ties for a steel pin with George Davidson as Tom Reder pounds the pins in with a sledge hammer. A view looking East from the West end of the yard and end of the grade wall.
Karl Losely and George watch Frank drilling as Don and Bill Bodemer spike the pins in. Progress is moving right along as the ties are joined together with the spikes made from a concrete rebar.
As darkness settles in I checked out how George and Dave made out with the signal wire project on the Branch Line. These two pics show the switch stand and the signal post with conduit attached.

The station form the end of the parking lot. The flash illuminated the rain that finally started at dark. What a great work session today, three separate work parties did the retaining wall, guard rails and run signal wires.
