9.30.07 Public Run


Before the run for the Wildlife Festival, Mike Uhrich stops at the station to chat with the members. Ray Dellmore gave a talk to the Boy Scouts about the operations and running of a steam engine.
Jake Knox with the hand powered chain driven riding car owned by George Metts. Ken Vendlinger brought his newly completed stock car patterned after a Lionel stock car complete with bobbing horse heads in the door openings.
Wally Pausch doubleheads with Paul Emch's train as they wait for Roger Harnish and Robbi Haines to load the train. Skip Frank tops off the water in the tender as his train is loaded.
John Deptowicz departs the station with a load of passengers on his Snoopy train. Rob Frank heads out with the battery powered circus train special complete with stuffed "caged" animals under the seat.
Frank looking over the gauges on "Eastwind", his Pacific steam engine as Roger loads his train. Marcel's train is loaded and the Hudson is about to take the riders on a journey back in time when steam was king.
Tom Pappas with his gas powered switcher leaving the station at the beginning of his run. Rick Nagy behind the GP38 is waiting for the adjacent train to leave the station first.
Skip Frank across from the steaming bays and gaining speed with his safety lifted on the engine. Rob with the circus train special and another load of passengers.
Mike with his Boxcab as Roger loads his train and at far left Bill Bodemer in a chair counts the riders. Judson Elliott, with Dick Clark on the rear as conductor, shifts the big engine into gear and increases the throttle.
Marcel looking over his shoulder and checking his passengers as he reaches for the whistle to announce his departure. Tom talks to Bill as Roger loads his train and Jerry Bell in red will be his conductor.
Ken Vendlinger with his train loaded and waiting for Roger to give him the "All Aboard". The Pacific and the Hudson in the station at the same time being loaded with passengers.
Wanting to see what the Park is doing for Wildlife Day I spotted this Great Horned Owl on a perch outside. Many there thought he was stuffed but I knew better because he winked at me.
There was also a Red Tailed Hawk on a perch enjoying the warmth of the sun. These birds were brought in to the Wildlife Center hurt and were taken care of and because of their injuries won't be returned to the wild.
Back in the woods at High Creek Don Speidel is just cresting the grade from Gulch with George Metts as conductor. Jerry Bell with the GP38 and John Koontz as conductor coast down the grade from Hemlock.
Tom on the 3% plus grade climbing the rail to High Creek with his load of passengers. Paul Emch coasting down grade past Gulch on the Westbound line using some air for the brakes.
John with his Snoopy boxcab passes the photographer on his way down to Hilde Hill. Skip at Hilde Hill just a few feet from Bridge #6 with his Columbia steam engine "Lynn".
Judson with a trainload passing through Fern which is at the bottom of the grade from Hemlock. Frank blows the whistle on Eastwind for the crossing just past the Truss Bridge.
Karl Losely at the controls of the Hudson as he brings his passengers into the station. George Davidson as engineer, with Ted Nyland as conductor, checks the traffic ahead unloading passengers.
Tom used the switch controller after deciding which track to use coming into the station. Kenny at the same location with his happy passengers as he approaches the staton.
Bill Deptowicz got out from behind the camera to give John a break and make a few runs with Snoopy. Judson and Lew Fowler as conductor bring in the last load of passengers for the Wildlife Run.
