9.30.09 Work Session

Dick Clark and Ken Brooks dump ballast on the Branch Line as Rick Nagy behind them sweeps the ballast off the top of the ties. Work continues up the grade to dress up the ballast along the track.
Ken, Rick and Dick check the track gage on a switch leading out of the yard to the main line. The concensous was to replace the ties between the two switches with new ones and Ken is backing out the screws.
Rick and Ken fasten down the rail to the new ties using the rail gages as a guide. Lew Fowler and Tom Reder load stone on the ballast train which seems to be a never ending task.
Tom is backing the train toward the station as Lew and Edith Hacker walk along side. The telephoto lens really makes the track look squiggly. The ties have been replaced and the guard rail between the two switch points has been reinstalled.
This is a picture of three duffers, Don Speidel in the background and Ken Brooks and George Metts. The loading area at the station has been dressed off with new ballast and is looking good.
Don Speidel smiles for the camera as we celebrate his birthday today. Dons' wife Phyllis, Dick Clark, Dick Mackey, Ron Trenhaile and Karl Losely watch as Don cuts his cake.
I should have been a little quicker to get this picture before the mouse got into the cake. Robbi Haines taking over the hostess duties and finishes cutting up the cake and handing the pieces out to the crew.
Happy Birthday Don!
